There is v warm coverage of the late Jeffrey Archer on Radio 4 Today focusing on book sales & chsrity with fraud, perjury & disgrace mainly as something to bounce back from. He probably got more second, thitd & fourth chances that anybody else in British public life in the last half century.

Labour MPs don't have the time to condemn fascist blackshirts terrorising anyone who isn't white but they do have time to report the Green party to the cops because they don't like a policy

This is one of the most basic, practical and obvious bits of common sense you will find in politics. If people lie to you and then joyfully fuck you over, you should automatically assume that everything they say in future is suspect and said in bad faith. Because it probably is.

maybe i'm naive but maybe it would actually be Good if you can clearly establish to investors "we enforce the law and ensure people are treated fairly" because it, you know, means they in turn can trust they'll be treated fairly? if some bad actors are robbing you blind it's not good for the rest!
UAE officials have warned the UK that a severe punishment for Man City could hurt future Emirati investment in Britain, Bloomberg reports.

This is the perfect argument for keeping foreign money out of football.

My dad is in a care home. He's 77. His formative years were in the late 60s. He liked the Rolling Stones

But all the pictures in his care home are of Charlie Chaplin, Rita Hayworth and Spitfires - way before his time!

People have a very skewed idea of what 'old' is!

Despite what people may say, paticularly the Red cartel fans, the following 2things can be true

1) City broke the rules on an industrial scale and should be hammered with a punishment.

2) The rules aren't fit for purpose, and they suit the interests of the few inserting a glass ceiling for others

There were almost no food banks when I was a kid, I don’t remember hearing the term until the 2010s and the Big Society. Cuts are just cuts, they have no moral value and anyone telling you “It’s unfair that Group (x) gets too much” is hoping they can play on your spite until nobody gets anything.

I think it's bad for public discourse and the reputation of journalism that newsrooms continue to give people like Linehan fuzzy puff-pieces, while turning a blind eye to their abhorrent conduct online

It is, if nothing else, a double-standard compared with how other public figures are treated
Graham Linehan is calling the people who murdered a trans man in cold blood, heroes.

look, I was here through every other round of benefit cuts, benefit conditionality youth employment schemes, crack downs, new criteria etc. since the 1990s. At no point did reducing support or making it harder to get have some transformative effect in the targeted population.

The wild thing is that this stuff *is* always a local issue. "The king is off doing foreign adventures while the kingdom is falling into ruin" is hardly a new kind of complaint.
BBC Host: "Zacks talked a lot about Gaza. Thats not a local issue is it. Thats not going to improve peoples lives there"

Saying that genocide is bad & we shouldn't be funding, arming or supporting the regime doing it. What a terrible person! How dare he, right?

DVDs aren't low-tech. They're just things you can actually own, that won't disappear overnight, that don't require a monthly subscription, that won't suddenly get reedited, that won't start putting adverts in the middle and that won't sell your data to the worst people in the world.
Perhaps you’ve ditched algorithmically curated playlists for vinyl and enjoy DVDs rather than streaming
Are you embracing low-tech ways to enjoy music and movies?

The public have been disenfranchised until now, states do little but hand out favours and contracts to allies and intensify or relax crackdowns. The only means people have for influence are withholding their votes, or withholding their custom. So of course, that shit needs cracking down on too.

Yeah this is what Rachel Reeves means when she’s talking about bats and newts. Further deregulation so builders can build homes without infrastructure and if you look at the price of these houses hardly “helping young families get on the ladder” is it
