Encouraging to see Board of Health prioritize positive childhood experiences to improve lifelong health outcomes.

In my deputation, I raised concerns about school environments and potential adverse child experiences linked to Ministry of Education legislation—especially for equity-denied groups.

Communities shouldn’t have to fight this hard to be heard.

From school board takeovers to jets on the waterfront, Ford is sidelining local voices and putting Parkdale–High Park neighbourhoods at risk.

Today, #FightFordProtest at Queen’s Park keeps the pressure on to protect public spaces.

Good indoor air quality is essential to whole health. I met with @cleanairto.bsky.social advocates and the Board of Health Chair to discuss practical steps to improve air in shared spaces—building on recent progress and a 2023 motion I advanced with colleagues at the TDSB. #CleanAirTO #PublicHealth

🎯"It is about ending Ontario’s long tradition of local education democracy so that a conservative vision of education can be directly inserted into schools over the objections of the communities they are supposed to serve."

The conservative takeover of Ontario schools
Ford government's actions make it clear that taking over school boards is not about improving learning, it's about ending Ontario’s long tradition of local education democracy so a conservative vision

OPSBA has long stated its willingness to partner with the government in any dialogue about possible governance changes, and the groups making this statement share this approach.

TDSB trustees rejected the proposed class size increase. The provincially- appointed Supervisor overturned the decision and predictably, chaos has ensued.
New: In July, in one of his first moves, the TDSB's supervisor approved a class size increase for specialized kindergarten classes for disabled students. We spoke with four instructors of those classes who said it's created "absolute chaos." #onted #onpoli www.torontotoday.ca/local/educat...

A TDSB superintendent has said having larger diagnostic kindergarten classes increases access for students, but some teachers say it’s making classrooms less safe

I raised serious concerns with The Trillium about the Student and Family Support Offices that opened Monday at TDSB and four other boards under provincial supervision—particularly what this model means for access, accountability, and student support.

Trustees play significant roles in policy development, budget allocation, and improving student outcomes. They hold the education system accountable and have brought transparency to decisions that affect our children’s futures. Removing them would centralize power and diminish community influence.

Former Metrolinx Advisor, current TDSB Supervisor, Rohit Gupta, rescinds class size cap directive issued by trustees last March… one of many reasons we need trustees… www.torontotoday.ca/local/educat... #onted #onpoli
Why has the TDSB supervisor rescinded a class size cap?
Trustees voted last March to cap class sizes in grades 4 to 8 at a maximum of 32 students. The TDSB’s supervisor rescinded that directive

Just before the holiday break, I spoke with The Trillium about potential school closures. With concerns raised by education critics and OPSBA, it’s clear decisions must stay with local trustees. I shudder to think of Parkdale–High Park families paying the price for reckless government overreach.
