It's only Monday but I can already tell that Saturday's column will be another one of those ones where I just literally write down his actual quotes in a long, stupid list and then have to vaguely pretend I made them up.
Trump: "I knew the Strait would be a weapon. I predicted it a long time ago. I predicted all of this stuff. I predicted Osama bin Laden would knock out the World Trade Center. I wrote it in a book."

Listening to Trump on his war on the TV just now. Mainly, but it’s hard to tell as he swerves from one thing to the other, on nations who are not too keen on sending warships to the Straits of Hormuz. He is nuts. Bloviating narcissistic bully. Probably demented.

From this morning’s Observer newspaper. David Aaronovitch on Trump (an erratic, vengeful mega-narcissist) and Hegseth (who seems to have stepped out of a Hollywood satire on insecure hyper-masculinity) and their Iran war for which no prep was made. Worth 5 mins of your time …

I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.

I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.

1/ Here's what I can share:

Looks like increasingly deranged Trump dragged Steve Witkoff from the golf course to stand with him for the latest bullsh1t briefing on his Iran war. They demean everything. To think these people sought to humiliate Zelenskyy for “dressing inappropriately” at an audience with King Donald.

The Discourse has become sort of numb to the fact that the richest guy on earth and owner of a major social media platform just routinely spits out the kind of nakedly white supremacist shit that until a decade ago you rarely saw outside of places like Stormfront.

The correction fails to air the real footage or inform viewers what was different about it. It claims the error was inadvertent and pretends to honor the fallen service members, but at the end of the day Fox still doesn’t show or describe how they came home to spare Trump from its viewers’ scrutiny.
Fox News admits to airing an old dignified transfer video on its program this morning, one that did not show Donald Trump wearing a white ball cap.

OTD 1979 our first-born appears on P1 of The Scotsman (I was on the newsdesk at the time). There’s some weel kent bylines on the page too. We had it turned into a copperplate like those marking notable events that hung in the grand wood-panelled lobby nearby the newsroom:

I get the strong sense that the bulk of media are calling Starmer's position on Iran entirely wrongly right now. I simply don't believe that most people out there are either as hawkish as the Tories or as anti-everything as the Greens. Being conflicted in the middle seems about right to me.

OTD in 2010 the Lake of Menteith froze over to a depth of 10”. Health & safety decreed ice too unsafe to permit the official curling bonspiel between North & South. So the expected Grand Match didn’t take place. Didn’t stop some folk though. Suspect never again in our time. Climate change!
