Just some thoughts from an immigrant economist gal wrapping up this historic election season. It really shouldn’t come as a surprise. The rhetoric of the center-left in the U.S. has been, as usual, frustrating.

I just want Mackelmore to know that playing in public parks could help fuel a people's revolution in values. I want every artist of integrity to know this. You do not need a billionaire owned stadium to reach the people.

I truly, deeply, sincerely do think the guy flipping burgers at McDonalds should be able to afford rent, bills, and groceries with his paycheck alone. That's kind of the whole point of having a job and I can't believe this is considered a radical position.🤷🏽‍♀️

Perhaps this is one of the deepest tensions of living between worlds: not simply belonging to more than one place, but never being fully contained by the categories available to describe you.

Unlike Macklemore, these support acts don’t have big followings and they are giving up their chance to perform to stadiums to push back against censorship, not of themselves but of a fellow artist. Respect.
The Irish musicians, Beoga, who play alongside Ed Sheeran, have withdrawn from Sheeran’s tour.

This is the statement they published on Instagram:

Inevitably there's criticism that the new documentary Naza focusses on Israeli perpetrators and not Palestinian victims.
To argue that the destruction of Gaza amounts to genocide, you need to prove special intent.
To prove intent, you need to enter the Israeli psyche, you need Israeli testimonials.

When I was a guide at Monticello and got asked the inevitable "was he a good slave owner?" question I used to just say "there's no such thing as a good slave owner." But in practice I found that landed more like a scolding than an actual explanation.

Un petit rappel pour votre lundi: the individual named Kanye West did a song Heil Hitler and no person stepped in to oppose his tour(s), which is still ongoing. Fun fact: Kanye is scheduled to perform at one of the stadiums Macklemore has been stopped from being at. I hope that helps.

Yikes, if this is accurate, its basically the owner class using their power to shut down dissent. The Patriots Robert Kraft told Sheerhan his concert would be cancelled if Mackelmore stayed on the your, and that other stadium owners would follow suit.
Banned: Macklemore's powerful statement deserves reading.
