While stopping Operation Metro Surge did not halt federal assaults on immigrants and Black and brown people in the state, it signaled an important setback to authoritarianism under the second Trump administration.

In “End Times Fascism,” Naomi Klein and Astra Taylor make the case that the ruling class is not lording over our future, but trying to escape it. How should the left resist doing the same?

“Affordability” is the primary rallying cry of American politics today. But while most politicians say that they want to help people afford their lives, what really matters is how.

After Operation Metro Surge, more threats to democratic rule are certain to emerge in the remaining years of Trump’s second term, including in the lead-up to the midterms, where voter suppression, misinformation, and election denialism threaten efforts to change the political balance in Congress.

The federal occupation of Minnesota must be understood as an assault not only on the people of the state but also on fundamental democratic principles of due process, equal protection, and rule of law.

App-controlled labor is less a technological novelty than yet another chapter in a much longer history of employer legal circumvention. Read the piece in Dissent discussing Brian Callaci's THE CHAINS OF COMMAND and how franchising gave rise to the gig-economy.

Trump seems hesitant to resume the aggressively violent and unlawful approach seen during Operation Metro Surge. But other threats to democratic rule are certain to emerge in the remaining years of his second term, including in the lead-up to the midterms.

If the coalition in “End Times Fascism” is defined by abandonment of a shared future, then the response cannot itself be a form of abandonment—not a smaller commune or a more righteous collapse. There’s little difference, after all, between a bunker and a tomb.
