Facebook now serving reels that it has AI translated from English into Spanish dub... including messing with the mouths to try (hopelessly) at matching the dubbed text. I don't speak Spanish.

Plus, reels now have mid-video unskippable ads.

Just when you think the enshittification cant get worse...

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

This reads like Napster take 2. While I'm not generally a fan of the extreme copyright protectionism Hollywood megacorporations demonstrate, AI is hurting creative industries big and small, and the platform has to be held to account for how it is used.
