Husband, father, son, grandfather, outdoor enthusiast, traveler, demand response and DER expert, former FERC economist, and President of Kathan Energy Consulting.
In 2001, I co-authored articles about the electric usage of data centers and suggested several policies. I posted on LinkedIn a piece that assesses our policy suggestions versus the current data center environment. Our policy suggestions fared well. #EnergySky www.linkedin.com/posts/david-...?

Google Gemini says the following about an article I wrote 25 years ago about data center electric usage -- "The policy implications outlined by Grahame and Kathan in 2001 have played out with striking relevance, mirroring a cycle of utility vs. tech tension that is repeating today."

Just spoke at an event alongside a Duke Energy rep who said *this week* they started requiring new hyperscale loads to participate in demand response — a defined # hrs/yr of required load flex — and he expects it to grow. 🔌💡
