Reading Dan Simmons' The Terror (well, audiobook from the library). I'm enjoying it but not at all surprised Simmons was a right wing tool. I liked reading Hyperion as a kid but even then I remembered there was some weird racial elements.

Two things- 1) yet another case of a new to science animal where the indigenous people are like "oh, yeah we know this guy it has a name" 2) a man was keeping this cat thinking it was a domestic cat, feeding it eggs and noodles until he realized it was wild- I need to know how he realized lmao

Read Peter Benchley's White Shark, the novel which was very loosely adapted to the Creature mini series. The book is definitely more fun, and gross, and has a good pace and some very tense scenes
