The pundit view of the world is skewed by many things, one of which is a refusal/inability to understand geographic spaces that exist outside their own neighborhoods. It's all based on stereotypes and conjecture—even when they go to other places, and their columns are essentially bad travel writing.

Just a reminder: Tillis persuaded the woman Hegseth allegedly raped to come forward with her story, and told her that if she did, it would sink the nomination.

She did. At great risk to herself. Tillis then cast the deciding vote for Hegseth.

Because he’s a goddamned coward.

Outgoing Sen. Thom Tillis spoke to MS NOW about regretting his vote to confirm Pete Hegseth and his strained relationship with Trump.

Listen: I don’t want to minimize the danger of high e-bike speeds.

But if the problem here is that stores sell e-bikes that can drive faster than legal limits, then where’s the story about how literally *every car dealership has been doing the same thing for decades*?!?

When Elon Musk's groups spent $20M+ on Wisconsin's 2025 Supreme Court race, his involvement backfired and his candidate lost by 10 points.

Now his super PAC has quietly spent $14M+ on key midterm races, including the Texas Senate race.

Would be a shame if people found out.

One (or all) of the following is happening:

- ICE is intentionally conducting insultingly bad FOIA searches to screw requesters out of records about the agency's use of force.

- It is failing to create records, or improperly destroying the ones it generates.

All scenarios are unlawful.
ICE Says It Can't Find Its Own Records Of Teargassing And Arresting Broadview Protesters
ICE's own rules require reports every time an agent uses force. But the agency says it can't find any from its attacks on protesters on Sept. 19, 2025.

learning that the whole “recycling plastic” concept as we understand it was an op funded by oil companies in the 70’s and 80’s as a way to kill any efforts which actually addresses the problem was a very sad day for me.
Fun fact: plastic recycling basically doesn't exist.

Only about 9% of all plastic ever made has been recycled, and only 1% more than once.

With AGI overwhelming the news again, I repeat:

There is no path to intelligence via LLM. But an LLM botnet choking the internet, or someone using a local model to attack aging infrastructure, are both real risks and too late to prevent.

Pay no attention to the bogeymen, the harm is here today.
In 2012 I took a comp ling course that went deep into language models as AI.

The professor dropped a quote that I think about probably once a week now: “building a computer model of language and expecting intelligence is like building a computer model of the ocean and expecting to get wet”
