"AI cannot think because only humans can think" is not an argument, but it's what you see over and over again from people.
that's not a position based on any sort of logic or reason, it's based on belief in some inscrutable essence that cannot be described or defined but that we possess.

This gets at something that’s been bugging me about the discourse around AI/N-S/Tao, etc. A lot of people are converting to what’s effectively a Romantic Author vision where they sound like Captain Kirk talking about how computers can never Love, except about Originality, Judgment, or Understanding.

what's great and fun about these kinds of social media platforms is that you are encouraged to share half-cooked, quick, spur-of-the-moment thoughts and opinions, but then the game is that you must defend your post to the death and never back down from the silly momentary feeling or thought you had

seeing more and more researchers and academics discussing using AI in place of surveys, and beyond the debate of how "accurate" these AI outputs are, i think it just speaks volumes to the way technocrats view their subject populations

this just reflects the real and complicated class dynamics of bike versus car advocates.
The urbanists’ enthusiasm for quiet really worries me. Makes me think of minorities esp Black people always being called loud. Don’t play your music too loud on the street! I get the pitch for less car centric cities but why is quiet and idyllic part of it? Just sounds like the suburbs. :/
i don't think we spend enough imagining how quiet and idyllic life would be if we flipped the ratio of bike/transit : car infrastructure.
