Lafayette Square isn't "a historic protest site." It's a fucking park. And it's packed on nice days. Calling it a protest site is White House framing.

They're closing a popular public park to create a presidential palace Saddam Hussein would love.

This will be one of the most important immigration cases in a generation. The Trump admin claims that a 1996 law mandates the detention of millions of people without any right to a bond hearing; every person who entered illegally, no matter how long in the past.

If they win, it's a nightmare.

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story.

For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards.

Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

The incentive structure for immigration judges, as part of the DOJ, has parallels in those for commissioners who enforced the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.
Probably time to stop calling them judges
A Post analysis found that immigration judges have ordered more than 440,000 asylum seekers removed during President Trump’s first 19 months back in office — more than during the previous eight years combined. https://wapo.st/4yZlKjy

In reporting about how Trump goes after his political enemies and left wing activists, experts have told me Trump's abuses were a natural consequence of sweeping powers given feds post 9/11 — It's like building a road and then being surprised when someone drives on it. Anyway, this is very good.
Here's a gift link to my 9/11 essay in the NYT.

Civil libertarians long warned that before giving government new powers, we should consider how an administration with authoritarian ambition might abuse them.

We were told that America was too exceptional to elect such a person.

Well here we are.
