In the distant past, before becoming a secondary maths teacher, I was a primary school teacher. I have taken what I learnt then to design these highly scaffolded worksheets which help all students to access the KS3 curriculum.

Last week in #MathsToday two activities given to Year 12 as an intro.

One from Susan Wall found in the great book "Teaching ALevel Maths" from @susanwhitehouse.bsky.social and @mrsouthernmaths.bsky.social.

Second from MEI.

My year 11s had a go at this lovely Dr Austin task today - Recognising graphs. They not been exposed loads to cubic of reciprocal graphs so did find it hard at time but most of them got there in the end.

In #MathsToday, Year 10 did some averages with fractions:

This was one of the original Interwoven Maths tasks when the site launched, and I still love the different fraction skills it requires, e.g. finding the midpoint of two fractions in the third column.

Year 10 have been working on negative fractional indices today. I've really been liking these Maths helper questions, they are really good for a Set 1.

In #MathsToday #ALevelFM we were working on de Moivres theorem. All was good until we got to ones like this where they needed to make the arguments match. Does anyone know where I could find more questions like this?

In #MathsToday, Year 10 were doing some averages from frequency tables.

They started with this from one of @studymaths.bsky.social's #1001MathsBots [table not revealed at first!].

And then moved on to some variationy practice questions.

Yr11 have been looking at quadratics as a whole, turning points, roots and Y-Intercept. They definitely need more practice but they are getting there.

In #MathsToday, Year 8 have started a chapter on Ratio and Proportion.

Certainly a contender for one of my favourite topics to teach. And it is one with a lot of particularly lovely NCETM Checkpoints to choose from - these are two highlights for me.

In #MathsToday, Year 13 Further Maths had a lesson in the morning to revise for an afternoon Core Pure 1 assessment.

I printed off a nice double-sided A3 revision mat.

There's something about that format that I find feels more approachable than 50 questions in a list!

Coincidentally, I've been linking all of my year 11's quadratic work to sketching graphs today. We explored x=0, y=0 (and hence solving, usually by factorising) and completing the square for min/max. There's a brilliant @draustinmaths.com worksheet that I then gave them to practice. Small steps 😁
