We call ourselves "intelligent," yet the humblest fungus can decompose waste and build soil, a tree can harness solar energy, and a wetland can purify water—all without toxic byproducts. True intelligence is learning from these systems, not bulldozing them.

This callout thread is particularly hilarious because the game was already cozyslop animeslop pastelslop, but no one had a problem with that, just the AI.

Probably the biggest reason to reject scientific realism in your writing is because it only serves people who fail to engage with the core of your story because they're worried about small details. You probably would prefer to write for individuals who have a greater capacity to suspend disbelief.
biggest flaw of the zombie apocalypse genre is that they just refuse to go "fine, the zombies are magic." so we're stuck with endless "the zombies are still around months after the outbreak despite having none of the faculties needed to sustain human calorie intakes"

Even David Shor's firm is telling Democrats in private communications that ICE is politically toxic right now.

They keep increasing the size and aggression of their deployments while targeting smaller and smaller places, because Stephen Miller derives an almost sexual thrill from the idea of masked thugs overrunning an ethnic enclave, but can’t find enough thugs or a neighborhood that’s vulnerable enough
One thing I noticed is that the thugs keep moving to smaller cities.

They started in L.A. and kept pretty tame while hoping the National Guard would do their dirt.

Then tried going into Chicago but got scared.

Now getting stopped by a city with 450k people.

Next stop: rural Maine.

Ok so suppose there was a language model that could generate prose without the ridiculous energy consumption and error-prone writing, right?

Why would I want to use that?

Like to me the whole joy of showing writing to others is when they react to stuff that I put in there on purpose.

A solution to population collapse: augment babies with AI so they can more immediately take care of themselves. Might destroy the parent-child bonding mechanism that took millions of years of evolution to build, but the parents will have more time to fulfil their urban wish of becoming Don Draper.

I think house MD is the most realistic show ever made because it's about how doctors can never be both smart and kind at the same time

I really can’t overemphasize how much Lasker has built a big following among even liberal writers as a brilliant eugenicist intellectual because he uses lots of numbers and charts. It’s like a foolproof hack to get popularism dudes to love you, they don’t understand numbers so it blows their minds

he’s just unbelievably cooking right here
Moderate, inside-voice, policy-wonk liberalism has allowed our society to descend into nativist, eugenicist, segregationist hellscape straight out of 1920. It has refused to consider how these ideas spread and refused to fight back as they have.

The way we conduct science is socially constructed (labs, universities, biases, etc) but the scientific method of "observe, attempt, correct" is a universal concept down to the atomic level. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to say that it's socially constructed like philosophy or whatever.
the more reasonable claim - that whatever reality is, the scientific process itself is a social construct - calling that a war would be silly. that's a sweep, obviously correct, barely anyone would bother to disagree
