This evening at 6:00, I’m giving a slide lecture in Lower Manhattan—reflections on growing up in NY, how the city has changed, and where it’s headed.

I realized that my reading list was expanding much faster than my reading speed could keep up with. It became clear that I was falling behind in the literary world and would never be able to catch up.
I could only explore a small portion of the vast mountain of literature that awaited me.

My cover this week.
I grew up amid Manhattan’s monotonous grid and found the endless boxes, aligned along strict perpendiculars, overwhelming. As a child, the Guggenheim’s round form was my oasis,” Drooker said. “In a hectic, crowded metropolis, it was a breath of fresh air, a return to nature.

Now the flames they followed Joan of Arc
as she came riding through the dark;
no moon to keep her armour bright,
no man to get her through this dark and smoky night.
She said, "I'm tired of the war,
I want the kind of work I had before”
