You want to understand people who vote for Trump: He’s Palpatine. They’re Darth Vader.
They know what Trump is. They know what he’s done to them and will do to them again. They don’t care.

PS You’re not Luke Skywalker. You don’t have to save any of them.

This is something that's going to be a real problem in US politics after Trump is gone. How do you reverse the damage to institutions he's done without falling into the same trap? Perhaps the first step is naming it clearly, but that requires a lot of trust with a lot of competing publics.

Every route out runs through offices whose legitimacy is the very thing in dispute. Follow the captured procedures from captured institutions, and the captors run down the clock. Step outside them and you hand your opponents a coup narrative, and a precedent.

This is what makes institutional capture so damaging, it’s not just that the wrong people end up running an institution, it’s that capture destroys the shared rules you’d need to undo it.

The plot of Red Dawn is wasted as an action movie. There's much more comedy to be mined from the premise of Cuban and Nicaraguan Communist troops forced to occupy and govern a small town in rural Colorado.

I just got a bone to pick with Ralph Nader these days, man. He's a consumer rights advocate by trade, so his whole conception of politics revolves around being a dissatisfied customer Canceling Your Subscription To America, which is the entire fucking problem with politics
Finding out that renowned Hyper-NIMBY Mark Ruffalo fucking loves the Seatbelt Lawyer Who Objectively Caused Every Bad Thing In The 21st Century is like finding a puzzle piece.

You knew it had to be there, but it's still satisfying when you actually find it.
I can think of many Ralph Nader ideas that should be buried in Yucca Mountain, starting with "it is better when Republicans win presidential elections"

As a 20+ year career veteran of Internet Culture production, professionally, it is my absolute opinion that if an aspect of pop-culture (particularly language) originated WHOLLY "online" it is 95% of the time innately cursed and should NOT be permitted to infect the actual culture.
I feel the same way about the wider adoption of Mogging, which is rooted in an ugly understanding of masculinity in the same way that NPC is denying personhood of others. The words you use are a reflection of your worldview and affect your worldview which is why you should consider them carefully.
I’m not a hand-wringer about a lot, but I don’t feel great about the wider adoption of the term NPC.

Bill Kristol being the only IRL living human in politics to have a successful "Dragon Ball villain arc" is the weirdest goddamn thing ever.
I hear Dem operatives going on about how kitchen table issues matter. They do. But why the huge and disproportionate surge in black and Latino turnout? Surely it has to do with assaults on civil rights and immigrants. Democracy may not matter much to Dem operatives; it matters to lots of Dem voters.

Just watched Tucker Carlson interview Sam Altman.

I say what I’m about to say full well knowing the world has never been run by ethical nor particularly well-educated men.

But I frankly can’t bring myself to believe these swill-brained word-sluices are making correct predictions about the future.

ICE paid CoreCivic $495 million for a prison in Minnesota that's only worth $75 million.

Asked why, CoreCivic said, “The federal government ultimately determined the sale price following its assessment process.”

CoreCivic donated half a million dollars to Trump.

No. They passed Civil Rights legislation and "working class" whites threw a tantrum. This wasn't ancient history, we have receipts.

"PMC" isn't real. You just don't like when your boss is younger and went to a slightly better school than you. Neither do I, but I don't pretend it's an ideology 🤷‍♂️
People don't vote to punish. That's just not a thing in the head of anyone but people making excuses.

The Dems have overseen decades of policies that saw workers increasingly abandoned for the PMC who were allowed to take over the remaining institutions.

Dems were either complicit or incompetent

In 1964, blue collar support for the dems peaked at 80%. After that, the dems pushed civil rights through, it dropped to 47% in 1968, then 38% in 1972. The workers left the dem party because the dem party first fought for civil rights for black people, then women, then latinos and then queers.

What you have to understand is that because of EA's new massive debt load, predictability is more important than ever. EA needs predictable annual cash flow to service its debt. So a Battlefront 3 that hits its deadlines is more valuable than a Mass Effect that will likely be delayed multiple times.
