"a cancer to our society and to our children’s future"

OIF and OEF vet, former AUS (the airport, not the country) and Army spox, now talking energy. Generally helpful, usually on background.
The dog is very concerned about this cat's nip habit.

Totally a me problem, but sat down tonight to finally watch Obsession with my wife (who despite not being a horror fan, saw it in theaters and loves it).

I couldn't get through it - none of the humor hit for me and I gave up after the umpteenth shot of a slow zoom w/ synths into a jump scare.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:

Neiman Marcus closed its downtown Dallas flagship on Wednesday. The store played a notable role in the history of desegregation in Dallas.

Previously, Black shoppers across the US could enter department stores, but they weren't allowed to try on clothes without adhering to certain conditions. 🧵

A report from the GAO found the Defense Department wasted millions on food never eaten and tents never lived in while assisting Homeland Security's rush last year to build migrant detention facilities in Texas and Guantanamo Bay.

From Stars and Stripes' Rose L. Thayer:
Military wasted millions on efforts to help with ICE detention facilities, GAO says
Billions were spent purchasing warehouses, rushing contracts and trying to establish detention operations in locations that didn’t meet regulations.

One thing that keeps popping into my head from Pete's "event" yesterday is the new base announcement, partially because of the dumb reality show of it all, but mainly because you know it's just going to end up being in the bleakest location imaginable after some red state governor promises the moon.

This is honestly a shame because, at least in my family's experience with our LG TV, it works pretty great!

Watched Predator with the boy last night (his first time seeing it) and I forgot how great Arnold's outfit is in the first part of the mission. The man has like five costume changes in the movie, but that long sleeve with the vest? Immaculate.

Legitimate question for the “of course you can’t bring an iced coffee to a job interview, that’s disqualifying” contingent - could someone bring a water bottle? Like what are the professionally acceptable liquids here

The dog woke me up at 3 a.m. last night to go outside, but at least while I was waiting I was able to see a cool lizard on the window.

Back when I was stationed in Japan I had a 1997 Honda Accord SiR sedan with all the bells and whistles, and recently I've been routinely fighting off the urge to look into importing one.
