The decision of whether to run for re-election has not been easy. I truly love the job of being a United States Senator.

But in my heart, I know it’s time to pass the torch.

So, I am announcing today that I will not be seeking re-election at the end of my term.
Our government is at its best when our local, state, and federal officials are working together. Yesterday, I hosted the United Counties Council of Illinois for a conversation about how our federal government can support counties in achieving our shared goals.

I introduced the First Step Act because I believe that with the right investment & support, those in prison can turn their lives around.

It was a pleasure to meet with @senatorelgiesims.bsky.social to discuss Illinois efforts to reduce recidivism & give people across our state a second chance.

60 years after J. Edgar Hoover weaponized the FBI to target political opponents and civil rights leaders, we see Kash Patel using the same playbook.

Stephen Miller and Donald Trump are the architects of unfathomable cruelty, allowing immigrants to be shoved into small cages as punishment & in violation of ICE’s own standards. Alligator Alcatraz—and the abuse that happened inside its walls—will be remembered as a stain on our nation’s history.
'Alligator Alcatraz' detainees were confined to small metal enclosures: IG report
The sweeping report on the now-closed detention center painted a picture of a facility overrun with poor conditions from insect infestation in the showers to a lack of clean drinking water.

The Trump mass deportation agenda is to make the immigration process so onerous that talented immigrants cannot remain in America after attending school here.

I led my Democratic colleagues to introduce a resolution of disapproval to block this Administration’s attacks on immigrant students.

From abusing Bureau resources to jet set around the world to his weaponization of the FBI, Kash Patel has a lot of explaining to do.

Tomorrow at 9am, Senate Judiciary Democrats will demand answers from Director Patel, under oath, about how he has made America less safe.

Diesel prices hit $6 per gallon for the first time in history thanks to Trump’s war with Iran.

It’s been six months and we’re no closer to an end to this conflict.

Trump’s chaotic foreign policy is alienating key allies and costing Americans more every day at the store and the pump.

The Will County Problem Solving Courts program has supported more than 1,000 participants and given our workforce new, skilled employees.

I was honored to speak at its graduation ceremony today and to celebrate the resilient men and women who just completed this incredible program.

I visited the Workforce Center of Will County to hear from staff and volunteers about their efforts to provide veterans with workforce services and resources.

We have a responsibility to ensure that our veterans are taken care of, & it was a pleasure to see how the Center is making that a reality.

Kash Patel has spent the last year weaponizing the world’s preeminent law enforcement agency to serve the interests of one person—Donald Trump.

He will have many questions to answer, under oath, when he comes before the Committee next week.
BREAKING: FBI Director Kash Patel to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, September 15.

From President Trump’s tariff taxes to his war with Iran, he has made it harder for small businesses to get by.

Today, I spoke with local business leaders in East Peoria to discuss what Congress can do to protect them from this Administration’s chaos.

Our nation’s historical institutions are better because of Lonnie Bunch, whom I’m proud to call a friend. A list of his many accomplishments deserves its own plaque in the Smithsonian.

While Lonnie will step down at the end of the year, no Administration will ever be able to erase his legacy.

Amid attacks from the White House, Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch is stepping down from his position after seven years of leading the Smithsonian Institution.

I joined @duckworth.senate.gov in demanding that FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford immediately give air traffic controllers the Congressionally authorized pay raise they deserve.

This money has been held up for 4 months & continuing to do so will only weaken retention & undermine aviation safety.

One year ago today, Epstein survivors came to Capitol Hill to bravely share their stories. Since then, these women have testified before Congress & fought to pass the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

These survivors deserve justice.

Rush University Medical Center has been recognized for the outstanding care it provides patients, but did you know their team also trains our military medical corps?

Today, I saw their Emergency Medicine training program in action, teaching students skills for mass trauma events.

Great conversation today with the Korean American Association of Greater Chicago about how we can best support our small businesses and protect health care for every generation.

Air traffic controllers already work one of the most stressful jobs in America. And now their pay increase is being used as a bargaining chip by the Trump Administration.

Another person just died in ICE detention.

It’s more than double the number of people who died in all four years under the previous Administration.

The Trump Administration’s mass deportation policy does not represent America’s values.

As the U.S. faces a health care workforce shortage, I've made it a priority to secure federal funding for stellar nursing education, including the Illinois Wesleyan University Innovation Program. It was great to visit with nursing students & tour the program's updated education facilities today.

Army Secretary Driscoll was a professional in every way. I asked him to add Rock Island Arsenal to his priority visitation list. He was there within months as Secretary. He was always responsive and willing to help. Our country is fortunate to have had his outstanding service.

It's been ONE YEAR since the Trump Administration began its illegal boat strike campaign, targeting and killing 227 people.

Trump is deporting our Afghan allies' family members, even though they were approved by a immigration judge to live in the U.S. He's sending them to places where they may be at risk of persecution or torture, without due process.
