We will be back at Govan in a couple of weeks time for an amazing two day event! We have a huge early medieval textiles display, weapons, and high status object of the period, and some glass bead making and casting demonstrations, alongside some have a go textile crafts and games!

Finished my Cumwhitton grave 5 Seax and sheath too; fits the evidence we have, and gaps filled in a reasonably period apropriate way! #viking #archaeology

So finished engraving this chapel for a Seax sheath; as said previously; totally made up to try and plug *probable* holes in evidence, but who knows if they looked like this?
The design is trewiddle style, and motifs adapted from two regional examples which are also on my sword. #livinghistory

Sometimes to try and recreate 'the whole' living history literally ends up having to make stuff up, or risk blank holes or anachronisms. This seax and sheath has been an exercise in that. It's pretty confident in the elements, but very few actually exist and intact and secure finds! #livinghistory

Bit of progress on the Cumwhitton 5 Seax sheath and several wooden cores from my sword scabbards. I don't think I did my trigger thumb much good though!

Recently I've been looking at making sheaths for two Seaxes; one a copy of a blade and silver inlaid horn handle from Cumwhitton Grave 5. I've used a tidied up version of a sheath from York for Cumwhitton, as the interlace seems most appropriate for the site and cultural links.

That's the silver fittings finished on my type L Anglo-Saxon sword. The next stage is a final adjustment to get the fit perfect, and then final polish and then fitting it all together!
