As many of our skies are being blanketed in smoke from the Canadian wildfires, let us be reminded that the health of our planet and the health of our communities are inseparable. Poor air quality is a justice issue, and the effects of climate change are hurting the most vulnerable first and worst.

In #MagnificaHumanitas, Pope Leo offers a clear acknowledgement of the environmental costs of AI. And this reminder is urgent, as our technology use relies on vast amounts of energy, water, land, and infrastructure and its impacts are felt most by vulnerable communities & ecosystems.

Pope Leo quotes J.R.R. Tolkien: “It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succor of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till.” Gandalf wisdom!
