I welcome the Prime Minister’s admission that the Brexit deal is a disaster for our economy, but the real test is: will he drop Labour's red lines that stop us fixing it? Today he says no – so we have more work to do!

For too long, successive governments have turned a blind eye to the huge damage caused by the Johnson-Farage Brexit deal.

I really hope this marks a real turning point.

Rejecting closer EU ties would be dereliction of duty, PM to say
Addressing the Commons, Burnham is expected to say that a new deal with the EU could help tackle illegal immigration and boost economic growth.

Wow. Donald Trump is giving money to Putin’s war machine so he can keep killing innocent Ukrainians and attacking democracies across Europe.

The UK must lead a coalition of the willing that stands up and says no.

Kemi Badenoch claims the Conservative Party has changed, but people in Spelthorne aren't so convinced.

I came to hear their concerns, and it's clear: empty promises won’t make them forget years of Conservative chaos, neglect and failure.
October 7, 2026 at 2:30 PM
Badenoch has spent half her conference making unfunded promises, and half lecturing the country on fiscal responsibility.

We’re all still paying the price for Conservative financial mismanagement. Liberal Democrats will act as the firewall stopping her handing No 10 to Farage.

When I visited the Nova music festival site, the impact of October 7th hit home. Three years on, the violence continues, and we have seen an appalling rise in antisemitism here and around the world.

We must stand with the Jewish community, stamp out antisemitism, and work for a lasting peace.

All carers need a break sometimes – and far too many carers don’t get them. This week, my wife Emily and I are taking our first two nights away as just us for over 18 years. When we’re back, I’ll keep fighting to guarantee respite breaks for every carer.

We need real action from the Prime Minister on Europe, not more hesitation. The Liberal Democrats have a plan to strengthen our economy, cut living costs, and boost defence by rejoining the Single Market, Customs Union, and working with European partners on security.

These issues cannot wait.

The Chancellor could cut petrol & diesel prices by 12p a litre right now with our plan.

But on the day diesel hits a new record? Nothing from John Healey in his speech.

I’m really worried the government just doesn’t understand the scale of this crisis.
September 28, 2026 at 1:30 PM
I really hope the PM is serious about fixing care, and he can show it by getting on with the cross-party talks we started in July.

This can’t just be a series of No10 headlines with no real action.

I’ll do everything I can to put family carers at the heart of any solution.

They will try to break our country, we will stop them.

The people developing super-intelligent AI have warned it could kill us all. We can’t leave the future of humanity in the hands of Trump or the tech billionaires. We need a global treaty to press pause before it’s too late.

Britain feels broken because it is being held back. People feel powerless, and they can't hold the powerful to account.

Liberal Democrats want to change our politics so that, together, we can fix our country.

We will cut income tax by raising the personal allowance, and take 750,000 ordinary people out of paying the higher 40p rate.

This is the fight of our lives and we are going to win it!
September 22, 2026 at 5:15 PM
Standing here on Brighton beach, I know this is the fight of our lives.

Now more than ever, we must offer real hope and fix Britain's broken political system together.

Andy Burnham must stand up to Trump like Mark Carney, not suck up to him like Keir Starmer.

Brilliant to join Paddle UK, Surfers Against Sewage, Marine Conservation Society, and Rewilding Britain on Brighton Beach this morning for a beach clean. Great turnout and we are committed to protecting our coastlines and water.

A brilliant start to the Lib Dem Party Conference in Brighton! Serving up fresh fish and chips to our fantastic local party activists and supporters. Ready for a great week ahead by the coast.

The threats we face here in the UK – from populism, from Trump, from Putin – are shared by our friends around the world.

It was great to join fellow leaders at Liberal International's Security Conference to discuss how we work together to defend liberal values.
September 17, 2026 at 11:30 AM
Conference season has officially begun! Can’t wait to see everyone in Brighton.

The cost of living. The NHS. Our democracy under threat from populism and billionaires trying to buy it. These are the fights that matter – and we’re taking them on.

My heart goes out to the Prime Minister on the loss of his dad.

From our conversations he sounded like a wonderful man.

My prayers are with his whole family as they mourn together.
September 14, 2026 at 1:45 PM
25 years after 9/11, I still feel that overwhelming mix of shock, grief and outrage.

Today we remember the thousands cruelly murdered by terrorists. We pray for the families, survivors and all our American friends.

And we stand united against terror, and in defence of freedom.

A big step forward for disabled young people and their carers today: the House of Lords passed our law to make it easier for them to access their Child Trust Funds.

This has been a long battle for me and many parents. I really hope Labour MPs don’t overturn our amendment.
