Here, the kingdom of Korunka is a clear reflection of ancient Egypt, though its visual style is clearly inspired by African and even European influences. Enjoy it as much as we have!

Ever since our PI became a gamer (thanks to Esperanza’s invaluable help), he’s taken an interest in many games with an Egyptianising theme, like Soul Mask (CampFire Studio, 2024).

The book edited by our PI, A.I. Fernández Pichel, "Imagining the Past in Fiction: Reception of Antiquity in Contemporary Popular Culture", is currently undergoing peer review.

We hope the book will be published soon and that it will be available in bookstores shortly!

The conference Antiquity in Simulation: Global Receptions of the Classical World in Video Games will take place on 13 June Saturday at the Oxford Classics Faculty (OX1 3LU), from 9am-5pm.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy’ is being released in cinemas across almost all of Europe today, marking one of the major highlights of this year's Egyptomania. We're going to watch it this afternoon and will let you know what we thought of it.

Our PI has finally finished Silent Hill 1 and was pleasantly surprised to discover that there are also Egyptian-themed references!

In the final part of the game, you have to find, among other symbols, the Egyptian ankh in order to progress through this level.

How are mummies and vampires similar in Egyptian-inspired fiction? Are they different, or do they combine in different works of popular culture beyond frequent crossovers?

"The Dog-Eared God" traces the story of an Egyptologist, Professor Dewey, who has been smuggling mummies out of Egypt for a number of years.

In the game Tomb Raider (1996), Lara Croft has to find a lost ancient artifact, the Scion of Atlantis. Her search for the remaining pieces takes her to Greece and ultimately to Egypt, where the third fragment is hidden.
