A guide to Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel, a queer, heisty, spicy, sci-fi romance manuscript.

Good Heists. Bad Decisions. Great Chemistry.

Are you its reader?

This is true for whalemen and for ambulance partners
an utterly fearless man is a far more dangerous comrade than a coward.

Why I love writing to vinyl
- Completely and simply offline
- Curate moods with albums
- Built in productivity timer (write until it's time to get up and flip the record)
- Cozy

violence, nudity, and bodily fluids aside, the wildest thing I've seen on the NYC subway is some guy and his hapless buddy moving 40-50 individual empty rolling suitcases by hand

the doors opened and they just started flinging them inside bucket line style saying "sorry! sorry!"

Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel: the crew of the Helle Wanderer have defined heist crew roles but move fluidly between roles like Scum and Villainy (TTRPG)

When Anora joins, the roles make her feel without a place & the fluidity disorients her more formal heist background #LitHodgepodge

Angel: The Series is a classic amongst a showrunner's oeuvre that fails to stick the landing, especially knowing now the reason for many aspects of the ending was a misogynist fit he was throwing towards Charisma Carpenter, the show's backbone

Definitely poisons the well of that particular one
What TV show got so bad it effectively destroyed your appreciation for the show when it was was good?

Saw someone complaining that author advice about frontloading "stakes" in a query / pitch doesn't work for literary fiction because

"blah blah some snobby opinion about genre fiction I won't repeat blah blah"

let me just say: if your literary fiction doesn't have stakes, you're writing bad fiction

"This is the most Philly thing to have ever happened"

STOP

No it's not

The most Philly thing that ever happened was when they killed the hitchhiking robot

Stardew Valley modders are unparalleled

Nexus mods will have a cool utility automating some part of the farm you find annoying, next to a cute expansion for the farm cat that might make you cry, and a mod that turns all your cows into mooing Naked Haleys

yall are bonkers I love you never change

I have finished this horror-tinged short story and it is pretty good as is...but I think if I completely changed the second half, it would really shine

I love the restriction of the structure of a short story but dang why does it always feel like you're trashing half of it in edits 😭
just started some new fiction research

Mantis shrimp. I was thinking of the mantis shrimp.

From the opening of Always Get In a Spaceship With a Scoundrel: Anora's mentor / gang's boss gives her the hyperspace treasure maps which will set her on the path to meet Jayro, our titular scoundrel

CW: sci-fi blaster violence; a close but not gory description of a chest wound #WIPSnips #WriteSky

we all know that one guy
He was a pure manipulator; his brain, if he had ever had one, must have early oozed along into the muscles of his fingers.

I was fighting virulently with a woman about something and a man jumped into the replies on my side but in a racist way towards her so we both paused our fight for a minute to roast the hell out of him and once he slunk off we resumed eviscerating one another
anyways whats the best interaction you've ever had with a man on the internet

i called a guy perry mason once and he responded by explaining who perry mason was

bisexual visibility month is waning so entering the tarot exhibit at the Morgan this afternoon I said loudly to my partner "there's gonna be SO MANY bisexuals here" and like three bisexual heads whipped around to see who could still perceive them

good place for bisexual spotting, the tarot exhibit

In 2005, my father, also my high school biology teacher, came into my bedroom early in the morning and woke me up to tell me not to wake up: we wouldn't be going to school that day because the gym was on fire.

On guns, school shootings, and the day my school gym burned down:
