Yes, this is an apology video. (And a celebration!)
Yes, Chester was one of the most gorgeous cities I’ve ever been to/lived in. But living here in Milton Keynes… gosh… it’s SO green and full of lakes (despite being more urban than Chester). Here’s a toast to new beginnings! 🍻

Not going to lie, I still love the covers of the Mapmaking Magicians books.

In the middle of all the moving stress, it was nice to have a trip to Liverpool the other day and get a chance to dive into an arc from the lovely @annecorlett.bsky.social on the train!

Did I mention that I friend and I climbed Moel Famau a while back? I wish I could go back there right now. There’s something about using all your physical energy that just shuts off the anxious mental energy flow. (Also, all food tastes better after a hike!)

Did you know that The British Fantasy Society is currently running a first 10 pages programme that offers feedback to new speculative-fiction writers from Black, Indigenous, People of Colour and Global Majority communities?
It's completely free as long…

Ah! This is so amazing to hear! I’m so happy you enjoyed the book and decided to post about it! (And yes, they needed a good shake.) 💙⚔️❄️
Snowblooded by @emmasternerradley.bsky.social was the book I needed this weekend: swashbuckly, queer, pacey as heck, and with characters so vivid you can smell them/feel their clothes/want to shake them (affectionately). Sweet and funny and w/ just enough social bite to keep it grounded. Loved! ❄️💖

Two different, great celebrations! The first one a fancy dinner at an award winning restaurant followed by mocktails outside on our 12th wedding anniversary (I really didn’t know that marriage could make you this happy, but every year just keeps getting better.) Then, for…

I finished work early today so now I have over an hour to sip coffee and read! AND tonight we’ve got a date night that includes a cinema visit! No matter what else is going on in life, it’s important to stop and acknowledge the good stuff, right?

Chester is ivy-clad as usual, despite the heat. It doesn’t believe in shedding its layers even during heatwaves.
July 15, 2026 at 2:38 PM
It is honestly so much nicer that it’s a bit chilly and cloudy outside now. I’ll take that over a heatwave any day! (And just look at all those deep summer greens.)

For a fiction author there can be no glory so great, no award so gleaming, no praise that so warms the heart, as unsolicited fan art

Throwback to this morning when it was cool enough to go for a short walk in the dappled shade of trees. Now it’s so humid and hot that I want to sit in an ice bath until this heatwave passes!

Sadly I think there are no more showings of this, but if something similar with @kitgreen.bsky.social comes up at @storyhouselive.bsky.social please don’t miss it! I saw this fascinating rendition of Mrs Dalloway last week (with the LGBTQ book club) and haven’t been able to stop thinking about it!
