The Women's Pro Baseball League boardroom saga continues.

This morning, WPBL CEO Keith Stein fired Mina Kim from the board.

Kim was pushing for WPBL financial records in court. This effectively ends her case before the judge issued a ruling.

My impression, as I examine multiple legal briefs and replies filed so far in this case:

When it comes to financial, spending and investment decisions, there is little meaningful difference between WPBL as a business and CEO Keith Stein as an individual
Per Mina Kim's pre-trial reply brief filed on 9/24, Kim was offered $600K to abandon her case to inspect WPBL's financial records. She rejected the offer

The brief doesn't specify who or what entity offered her $600K - if it was CEO Keith Stein personally, the league, or a 3rd party
When legal drama at the Women's Pro Baseball League recently became public, I started asking questions.

I spoke with people close to the league as well as the CEO at the center of the controversy. Here's my investigation into the WPBL's "power struggle:"

Vicious Infighting Is Jeopardizing the Future of Women's Baseball
The WPBL is the first league of its kind in decades. It’s been beset by corporate infighting since before the first pitch was thrown.

Amid WPBL infighting this past spring, CEO Keith Stein signed Yasiel Puig to his semipro baseball team for an undisclosed amount of $$$

Puig's salary is private, per his Maple Leafs contract i.e. his salary cannot be made public in Puig's recent bankruptcy filing.

In April, Toronto Maple Leafs owner Keith Stein signed Puig to the largest contract in Canadian Baseball League history

Keith Stein is also CEO + Co-founder of Women's Pro Baseball League. WPBL board member Mina Kim recently accused Stein of impeding her access to WPBL financial documentation 👀
Congratulations to Yasiel Puig, once a well-loved major leaguer and now with serious gambling-related legal problems, who set the Intercounty League record for single season homers yesterday (I do not recognize a “Canadian Baseball League”, ICBL forever)

You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test

Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)

Good tech.

Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)

Bad tech.

Mina Kim's legal filing suggests two WPBL board members--Shauna Stein + Mark Prosterman--are related, but failed to disclose that to investors

they seem to be siblings, per this obit

Shauna's husband is Keith Stein (CEO of WPBL). So WPBL CEO's wife and bro-in-law comprise 2 of 6 WPBL board members

If check swings get defined, I wonder if the rule will consider a batter's intent, in addition to geometrical parameters?

MLB ump Dale Scott once told me a bat's physical movement can be deceiving when calling check swings:

“Sometimes the bat moves very little but he offered...

(1/2)
Checked swings has NEVER been defined in 150 years of baseball

Strike zone HAS been defined as stance-based for 140 years, changed to height: no one says boo

If/when Checked Swings are defined at MLB level, the "controversy" will last an entire off-season, plus one week of play

they need real marketing, leadership, PR, communications, admin help. everything feels so disorganized and amateur
