Finally out! 🎉
After 3 years of postdoc in London, here is my main work, now published in Nature Comm. (and as co-corresponding author!)
Using a combination of bioinformatic and experimental approaches, we propose a model of plasmid evolution in Staphylococcus.

Mobile genetic elements drive a plasmid fusion and deletion lifecycle shaping evolution and antimicrobial resistance - Nature Communications
Plasmids drive bacterial adaptation, but how their diversity arises has remained unclear. Here, they show that in Staphylococcus aureus, mobile genetic elements repeatedly fuse and delete plasmids, re...

Great explanation, both of the research findings and how unrestricted collaborative science helps us learn big important things!
In 2014, Jason Rosch and I met at a GRC in Tuscany and sketched an idea on a cocktail napkin: what if we evolved S.pneumo in mice, treated them with antibiotics, varied their immune systems and watched what won?

11 years and a huge team effort later, it's out in @cp-cellhostmicrobe.bsky.social 🧵

What makes a good Power Hour?

I'm chairing the 2027 Microbiology of the Built Environment GRC and having a lot of fun putting together the program. But I'm a little stuck on who to ask to host the Power Hour. Thoughts on what makes a good host? I'm also open to volunteers/nominations 🙏
