Dean of Science at Stellenbosch University writes that although AI generates almost all the words for his articles (including this one):

"AI did almost all of the writing. I remain the expert and the thought leader behind the piece."

When AI writes the words, who is the author?
After an AI detector classified one of my opinion pieces as entirely AI-generated, I found myself questioning where authorship ends, where expertise begins and what readers deserve to know.

Remember when the metaverse was sold to higher ed as an essential part of the future of learning (especially online)? And how colleges and universities should go all-in on the metaverse so they could be "pioneers" of this new technology? There's a lesson here for those who choose to learn it.
Meta is shutting down its VR metaverse on June 15th.

Last term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out.

As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class.

Here's what happened:

For years, people described prestige TV shows as a “eight-hour movie.” Looking at the Stranger Things run times, they have turned this notion upside down, with eight feature length movies. Thoughts @sepinwall.bsky.social ?

“Putting a hat on a hat” is literally a term actual comedians use to describe something as trying so hard to be funny it is no longer funny.
"They say I wear a lot of hats," Elon Musk jokes in cabinet meeting. He grabbed a red "Gulf of America" hat from the cabinet room table and put it over his black DOGE hat.
"Even my hat has a hat."

This works, highly recommend. As they say, it’s a real pig in the basement for Google.
Someone on Threads noticed you can type any random sentence into Google, then add “meaning” afterwards, and you’ll get an AI explanation of a famous idiom or phrase you just made up. Here is mine

Super excited to be going to BreakoutCon again tomorrow - lots of games to play.

Saturday is usually all play-to-win games for us. Hey @breakoutcon.bsky.social, any chance you can post a pic of what's available this year?

PSA for Chromecast users: it’s not your Chromecast that’s not working, it’s everyone’s. I wasted a bunch of time this evening before learning this.

Do not factory reset your device or you may turn it into a (tiny) brick. If you already did (like me) this article has a fix.
