Being really moved by how Kemi Badenoch talked about her relationship to Jeffrey Archer was not on my bingo card for how I’d wake up this morning.

My son (2.5 years old): Mossad! Mossad!
Me: Leonard, I am pretty sure the Mossad isn’t here.
After 15 min, realising I was playing a Mozart opera and:
A) he says Mossad for Mozart.
B) he can recognise Mozart’s music when he hears it.
Proud mama.

No better way to end a rainy Sunday spent playing with wooden trains and watching German puppetry than a discussion about AI and whether it will kill us all. I will be on LBC at 18:30 to do just that.

Ah delighted to see everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of “terrible-but-will-make-you-sound-impressive” policy.
France has voted to ban social media use for children under 15, the first in the EU.

Damn the London dating scene of the 40s/50s must have been quite something that you could go on a date with Ralph Miliband/Rosalind Franklin and step out thinking « nah I can do better than this »
Fun fact: Ed’s dad Ralph Miliband was set up by mutual friends on a date with Rosalind Franklin (of DNA fame) but they didn’t hit it off. If they had, there’d have been no Ed to become Foreign Secretary.
"My parents came to Britain as Jewish refugees from the Nazis. To them, Britain was both a sanctuary and a beacon of hope in the global fight against fascism. I will carry my parents’ faith in that spirit of Britain to my role representing our country" - Ed Miliband on his appointment as Foreign Sec

Well as a dual British/French citizen this was the best possible game. Wish we had gone on extra time to get to 15 goals.
July 18, 2026 at 11:07 PM
The whole point of dual citizenship is that France was meant to be my back up team I would support once England loses. How did they manage to lose before England?!?

Cabo Verde still the only team to have resisted against the Spanish. #TrueWinners

I see people on Bluesky complaining about ITV commentary. Meanwhile I watched the game on French tv and since the referee was French the commentators felt obliged to talk about him so much I initially thought he was a British player I had never heard of with an oddly French sounding name.

Ah yes people going to their GP practice when they’re unwell will boost the economy, if only Keir Starmer had thought about this.
"Germans, on average, take about three weeks, or 15 working days, of sick leave per year. This is lower than in France and most Nordic countries…"

Love a thread packed with useful stats even as I live a blessed existence and do not know a single climate denier.
It was inevitable, wasn't it🙄

Of course the Telegraph would run with something like this👇

So let's remove some of the rose-tinted spectacles and also look at some of that data comparing 1976 with modern heat waves

Because the 1976 nostalgia porn is wearing a bit thin at this stage

Growing up in 90s Vatican policy is homophobic and sexist exposes folks to HIV and teenage pregnancies.
2020s: “if you want to understand my views on AI just check out whatever the Pope said”
The Pope has weighed in: AI isn't magic. It's currently produced by a deeply exploitative, extractive supply chain. It challenges human dignity; could fuel a new colonialism. And among the greatest challenges of our time will be to redirect its path of development.
