BBC coverage of Piddington was really annoying. Are there not more important things going on? Uncritical coverage of this racism tinged nimby stunt didn't help either. What would they do?

One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries.

I have not watched a minute of the #CommonwealthGames and I am not the only one who used watch avidly. Paywalls are not good particularly when the whole event is facing an uncertain future

And if we go back further the impact of "bang em up and throw away the key" is even starker. Do we really need to ge jailing twice as many people as we did at the time of the 1990 Strangeways riot?

The 1970s are due for a major reevaluation imo. For all but the first 5 and a half months of 1970, the UK had either Tory governments or Labour governments without an effective majority. There was little discernible socialism around (apart from paper sellers!)
