Events in Dover earlier this month were viewed as an alarming escalation in far right intimidation in the UK.

For women's groups, whose cause many of those men claim to champion, such menacing tactics have become a part of everyday life.

Still a few last freelance pieces publishing from before my new job & really pleased this is one of them.

For @tbij.bsky.social I dug into far-right claims to “protect women” - and found women’s orgs across the country disrupted & intimidated by them:

Tech abuse is on the rise in the UK - including in the most extreme cases

For @theobserveruk.bsky.social Petra Matijevic and I dug into domestic homicide data & found tech abuse in 40% of cases - but too often it wasn't taken seriously, responded to properly, or recognised as a risk before death 👇

This is so deranged I feel like I’m having a fever dream 🤪
This is Sarah Pochin's video message in full. I swear I'm not making it up:

“England won the football last night, and thank goodness they did, because on the occasions that England lose their football matches, the incidence of domestic violence goes through the roof. So, boys – keep winning.”

The hearing sheds rare light on what servicewomen have told the Observer is a misogynistic and bullying army culture, because Met misconduct hearings are public while the Army’s are not

In November 2023, police found the decayed corpse of Tracey Turnell in Walthamstow Market.

She had no phone, job, passport, friends or lovers. There wasn’t a single photo of her.

In the hardest piece I've worked on for @londonermag.bsky.social, I worked out who she was and who was responsible.
The body in the wheelchair: How did a troubled family get lost by the state?
A decayed corpse was found being wheeled through the centre of Walthamstow. Who was she? And who is to blame for her death?
