Seven people were shot at the Shack Town Reunion block party in Tuscaloosa, Alabama over the weekend. There were up to a thousand people in attendance. Victims ranged from ages 12 to 40 years old.

Let’s be clear: There is no research to support the idea that women’s gun ownership increases their safety. In fact, studies show the opposite — that women living in households with a firearm are at greater risk of homicide.

It’s been 25 years since a man “avenging” the 9/11 terror attacks shot and killed Balbir Singh Sodhi outside of Balbir’s gas station. He was targeted because he wore a turban and beard as part of his Sikh faith. Today, my heart is with the loved ones of Balbir, who should not be forced to mourn him.
