Has to be Therese the engineer on the bottom, making use of her thick squid tentacles. She doesn't even need eyes to see, very convenient!

Hal the drake soldier has big arms, so he gets the middle. And it's weird to leave the MC out, but Miriham or Lilith would be the best talker on top!

I'm a prolific daydreamer. Imagining nonsense daily was always gonna end up as writing nonsense down. Writing helps me tighten my focus, organise my thoughts, and it's fun, is the heart of it! I love what I've written, and it'd be cool to find others who like th same sort of nonsense!

The starfaring crew of the Rune Carrier would feel at home in nearly any sci-fi, and would struggle if denied technology, so in fantasy or historical settings. Maybe something like Terminator would be fun? They go to back-in-time Earth and have to save someone from a future killer?

[There you are.]
Something slammed into the sealed door at his back. Once, then again. Massive impacts, rending metal and shredding circuits. When he turned to face the door, Marcus saw that it had dented inwards. And whatever beast was on the far side of that door took both sides in their hands and began tearing them apart. Bit by bit, with a screech of wrecked metal, the door began to open.
“Oh… very good!”
Marcus turned back. Arkay was smiling madly. That wasn’t right. She should be afraid. Instead, she was grinning with ludicrous hunger.
“Very good! Very good! See, Marcus, how the universe rewards my work? I can yet succeed…”
Mounting terror grew in Marcus’ chest, hitting fever pitch as Arkay glared down at him.
“I hope you are ready to see what RK stands for!” she seethed.

“You look great too, Elm,” he said with a smile.
“Fuck off,” she replied predictably and took a long drag on her cig. “All I want out of you is proof you’ve been listening. We’re taking a massive fucking gamble here, which proves how much we need this night out. But I’m not going anywhere until you prove to me you remember tonight’s rules. Well?”
Marcus blinked. “I… don’t remember there being any mention of specific rules. Which means-…” he added quickly as Elm tightened one fist at her side, “that… in the absence of specific permissions, I’m not actually allowed to do anything. So, no walking around, no talking, no… um, singing. No bothering Talyn, of course. I might just sleep.”
Elm’s lips tightened around her cigarette, but the nod was light and easy. “Clever boy. Remember that, and I won’t have to beat the shit out of you.”
“You really should listen, Marcus,” added Sera with a mischievous smile. “Elm is going to be utterly intoxicated tonight, so you can’t rely on either me or Talyn to be able to talk sense into her if she decides to end your life.”

Lonely Ship's MCs are often starship intelligences, moving stuff around their ships invisibly but with purpose. Invisible purpose also describes their enigmatic creators, now missing from the galaxy.

So I think they'd be employed by a poltergeist!

[May I speak with you like this?] Her voice, echoing in his mind, was clear and confident. [The chill is making it difficult to expel my voice in a meaningful manner.]
[Of course,] he replied digitally. [It’s no problem at all.] After all, his throat was still a little dry. Speaking with his mind conveniently ignored the aches of his body.
[Thank you. Are you well, Marcus? Your arm injury looks quite severe.]
[It doesn’t hurt that much anymore. And besides, a visitor from the future told me I’m getting a new one fairly soon.]
Since Pyrrha had revealed to him that he would be receiving a comfortable prosthetic in the near future, Marcus had found that the ache in his stump had subsided considerably. As if his body knew there was a time limit on his suffering.
[Robot claw.]
[I am sorry?]
[O-Oh, did I think that out loud?] asked Marcus sheepishly. [It’s nothing, Talyn.]

“I bet she’s with Rune,” Avalynne said.
“You think so?” Hal asked, standing beside her in the doorway. “I guess they’ve been getting along recently, haven’t they?”
“Exactly. If she’s not in bed and she’s not in engineering, she’ll be hanging with her bestie. So if you want to talk with her, you’d better try-…”
Avalynne stopped short. The flickering lights… Oh my.
“You’d better try… finding her in the morning,” she finished instead. “Since they’re probably asleep by now. And if they aren’t, I bet their current conversation is very much no boys allowed.”
Hal sighed. “You’re right. In the morning. I’ll talk to her in the morning, maybe…”

Talyn closed her eyes and nodded her head slowly, as if this was a wistful memory. “This shall make our fourth Girls’ Night on Ring City, making it our most common destination for revelry in the entire Forge.”
Frowning, Elm counted off on her fingers. And realising, Talyn cast her a disapproving shake of the head.
“Of course, you still do not remember the third time, Elm. I had to carry you home, so I remember it very clearly.”
“U-Uh, thanks Tal.”
“This sounds very exciting.”
At once, Elm’s mood soured. She breathed out a hot breath through her nose as she leaned around Sera and Talyn to set her sights on their prisoner, who was peeking out of medical with a stupid smile on his dumb face.
“Moron,” she told him. “The clue is in the name. You aren’t fucking invited.”
“A-Ah, right. I did guess that much.” Marcus laughed. “That makes sense. I hope you have a good night out.”
“Any time away from you is good,” she grumbled.
“I’m just checking, though. I’ll be staying here that night, and I’ll be… by myself?”
Elm frowned at him, uncomprehending for a moment. Then, her heart sank.
“You did not consider that one of us would have to remain on guard, did you?” said Talyn.
“Fuck.” Elm gritted her sharp teeth, then pointed a finger at Marcus. “You spoil everything, don’t you?”

But hidden among the smoggy clouds and burning mountains, tucked away in the dark of the night’s shadow, was a thin strip of brilliant, neon starshine. That strip was the only place on the whole world that was safe from the cataclysmic flare of the sun Corona. Sera had told Marcus that Ring City itself was a tightly bustling urban jungle, rife with parties and cheap food. An unending celebration of life, here on the very edge of demise. The residents and visitors both knew that someday, perhaps in a thousand cycles or perhaps ten million, the rotation of the planet would shift enough to destroy the urban strip and turn all their accomplishments to char on the solar winds. Even so, the people came. Perhaps because of that understanding, it made their joyous cries into the void sound all the more resonant.

“I won!”
It was childish of her, she knew that. But Sera did so like to win. She made an attempt at calming herself down but needlessly, as Neu stood to his feet with a wide smile and a demure round of applause. He came around the unit towards her.
“Well done!” he said. “I can hardly believe it, but well done! You must have…”
Drawing close, he leaned around the divider and examined her win-state. Sera could smell the minty shampoo he used in his gorgeous locks.
“Oh, you little devil!” he laughed. “You were right beside me the whole time! Very sneaky!”
Sera felt herself blushing, and the rushing warmth of the heavy effects of her drink. She rested herself down into a seat on the tabletop of the unit, and Neu came to a seat beside her. Close. He liked to be close, her Neu.

“Is this an emergency?” Rune asked, raising one brow.
“Oh, I think it is! If I don’t hear how Marcus has been treating you between the sheets, I think I might just die!”
A feline technician happened to be walking by at that moment, and she turned curiously to eavesdrop until she passed them by. Rune blushed fiercely.
“Y-You already know all about that.”
“Do I? Let’s find out.” Therese’s tentacle reached around, tugging Rune closer beside her, and the tip tapped on the glass of the wine bottle with a pleasantly full thunk. “Drink that, and then tell me there’s nothing left for me to discover.”
“A-All of it?”
“Half of it. And who knows.” Therese nuzzled Rune’s hair playfully. “Maybe once I’m properly lubricated with the other half, I’ll let you tease me a bit, too.”
This time, more people were passing by, and they all turned to listen.

“Not wrong at all, my sweet girl,” Elm grinned as Talyn emerged from engineering and made her way into the group. “In fact, I have a surprise for you both. I’ve gone ahead and booked us in for Ring acceleration the cycle after our arrival.”
“The cycle after?” Sera folded her arms with a frown. “Was that the earliest they had?”

“What’s prime time the cycle after our arrival looking like?”
“Prime time for plus-four?” he sighed. “Busier than the palace on Almsday. You expecting a delay?”
“No, no. We’ll be there. What about first shift for that cycle?”
“Urgh, you’d give up prime time for a firstie?”
“Humour me.”
Ari hummed. “It’s open. You can have it, if you like.”
“And a discount for freeing up a prime?”
