LA's Congress of Neighborhoods is a great example of how hyperlocal democracy can create incredible intra-city coalitions -- and Alex Levy's and @publicdemocracyla.bsky.social's work shows how deliberative democracy fits into and builds on those coalitions.

Angelenos, attend if you can!
On Sept. 26, Alex Levy of PDLA will be facilitating a workshop on civic assemblies at the 2026 Los Angeles Congress of Neighborhoods.

Sign up www.neighborhoodcongress.la to attend! Our workshop will be 3-4 pm, although the conference runs all day. We will also have a table. Come by to say hi!

How is LA's new Charter Review Committee planning to move reforms forward?

Committee Chair McOsker's new motion asks for timelines for action and a clear, public-facing way to track different reforms to hopefully help clear things up.

I called Katy's office this morning to ask for all three!
If you have time today, we advise also calling the offices of the members of City Council's Rules Committee to tell them which reforms you want on the November ballot (*especially* Council expansion, RCV, and LAPD accountability!)

LA folks, if you have a minute this morning, I encourage you to call your councilmember's office to encourage them to vote to advance ranked choice voting, an expanded city council, and police oversight reform to the november ballot! A critical vote is happening this afternoon and it needs help!
June 12, 2026 at 5:05 PM
🚨 FRIDAY 6/12 @ 1 PM: LA City Council's Rules Committee meets to discuss Charter reform one last time — just as the Chief Legislative Analyst says “further study is required” on almost all major reforms.

Tell Council: No more “study", and no more stalling!

If you are mad about how broken LA feels, confused why no one seems to be in charge, and brokenhearted that I lost my election to an anti-housing MAGA funded incumbent, let me direct your energy toward the LA City Charter, which is going through a big rewrite. 🧵cc @fairrepla.bsky.social
