Some folks will claim that this is hyperbolic, but what I wish people would understand is that tech initiatives like this serve as a means of eroding consent and lower the barrier for the persistent capture of people’s image, voice, data, or whatever else a gadget can glean.

I'd also like people to understand that this is an iterative thing. Companies didn't go from "not eroding consent" to "let's all erode consent" at once. Tech has been doing this for more than 25 years.
The longer we keep making excuses to keep using these things the worse it will continue to get.
