When they get back in power, Democrats need to go all-in on higher education.

We need a campaign of reinvestment in public universities across the country that makes the Morrill Land-Grant Act look like nothing by comparison *and* a GI Bill of Rights-style program of tuition grants.
Trump is banning students majoring in degrees that don’t make enough money from taking out college loans. Degrees for social work, art, religious studies, teaching aides, and music will be hit the hardest. trib.al/kQdKbY1

Under a new rule, if your degree doesn’t make enough money, you won’t be able to get a student loan.

Before I scrolled to the second post in this thread I thought “huh interesting, this reminds me of what I have been thinking about Taylor Swift recently. Politically she may not be a Republican but lately, artistically, she is.” Then I scrolled and saw that exact point in the next post 😂
The GOP is an opposition party even when it's in power, the idea that they are the perpetual underdog is central to their internal mythology and can't be disturbed by facts or the results of elections. It's also why they're bad at, you know, governing.

While the trans sports panic was manufactured it’s also true that it’s fueled by sports becoming expensive and therefore high stakes instead of just an affordable way to get your kid exercise and teach them teamwork and discipline. The best thing to do for kids sports is ban travel leagues!
Outside the obvious timebomb of selling out trans kids to appeal to ~16 bigots in deep Ohio, an underplayed part of the whole "trans kids in youth sports" stuff is making the most psycho Little League parents the most important political demo in America. They're joy vampires for the kids themselves!

there are good and complicated reasons "quality of life" issues became the domain of the right, but the left's great failure since the '70s has been operating under the assumption that results matter less than righteous intent, despite arguing for a material politics

I agree 1000% with this. I would like to add, as a former undergrad advisor, that to really excel at parenting you should let your high schooler fail. It feels high stakes when they fail because you’re thinking about college admissions but…
Oh my dear god, let your college kids fail. Let them fail courses. Let them fail paying rent. Let them fail doing their laundry. Let them fail basic hygiene. Let them fail and experience consequences.

There’s actually a secret feature with these glasses - if the person wearing them doesn’t stop recording on request, you can disable the recording function by taking your school issued iPad out of your backpack and, holding it firmly in both hands, slam it as hard as possible across his face
NEW: Teen boys are using smart glasses — mainly Meta's AI Glasses — to film themselves harassing classmates at school, following girls around and "rizzing" them or "ragebaiting" them w/ insults.

In several videos we reviewed, girls plead w/ the poster to stop filming.

There are four overlapping scandals here:

1. Fundraising spam tactics are hallmarks of elder financial exploitation
2. The Dem establishment is in on it
3. Most of what is raised goes to fundraising consultants
4. Capitulation to legal threats by NYT and The Bulwark on a fully vetted story

A beautifully clear and informative thread about the reflecting pool algae bloom, why it’s happening, and how to fix it… from an OFMD fan account. Sometimes, I love the internet.
Since I did do my PhD in cyanobacteria growth and treatment optimization modeling AND work in the water treatment industry, I’m gonna share my theory as to what’s happening here and how to fix it.

People are focusing on the painted bottom of the pool increasing residual heat, and while that 1/19

I even did a video on why so many farmers support Trump, WHILE knowing he'd hurt our farms.

One of the things I’m really struggling with about what’s going on in Minnesota is that if you describe what’s going on in plain, factual ways to someone who’s not paying close attention you sound completely, bugfuck crazy
Minnesota: "School officials say the [5-year-old] child was used as bait. They say [ICE] agents made little Liam knock on the door to ask to be let in in order to see if anyone else was home."
