Quite tricky not simply exploding with rage at the callous cruelty & gleeful stupidity of all this *gestures at everything* isn’t it?
Difficult to keep from bursting into searing flames of apocalyptic anger & spontaneously spattering one’s atoms across the known universe like furious meat confetti

My new novel is out a week from today — tough timing because of the election & uh, you know, the world. With book reviews an extinct species, it's hard to get the word out. So tell your friends! Meanwhile, I've started the next one, folkish horror set in a bog at a remote Maine hunting camp. Onward!

This aired just the once in 1998 on the live SNL show for which McKay wrote it.
It was effectively banned as it never aired again.

I wonder why.

You’re Getting In My Hair, created c.1968 by Mavis Oultram, in the art therapy studio at Netherne Hospital, Surrey, where she was compelled to live.
This is one of a small number of surviving works, which all feature the motif of eyes. No biographical information is currently known to us

Things I was frightened of as a child:
-Nuclear war
-My house burning down
-Any monster that could turn *you* into a monster (esp. Werewolves)
-The monsters in my room that came out at night & only didn't hurt me 'cause I put a pillow over my eyes so as not to see them
-Hardboiled egg-slicers
Things I was frightened of as a child:
Nuclear War
Giant Hogweed
Pylons
Hellhounds
The Black Rabbit of Inlé
Lowry’s The Man With Red Eyes
Accidentally digging up a haunted skull
The Yorkshire TV ident
Rabies
The Castrol GTX advert
Tottie
The knight on the cover of the AA Treasures of Britain
Things I was frightened of as a child:
1. Not getting to the bottom of the stairs before the loo finished flushing.
2. Falling into a thorn bush and being blinded.
3. The granny with all the pills on her dresser who made me margarine sandwiches.
4. The dark country lane where Mrs Kelly lived.

Farewell today to the high priestess of polka dots, Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama (1929-2026). Her work was unforgettable and for her, a means to survival. It’s playful, psychedelic, compulsive, beautiful and slightly unsettling all at once. Into infinity and beyond Yayoi! 🔴🟡⚫️

Tim Curry and Dolly Parton have taught us not only that you should be bigger, weirder, gayer, and freakier, but also that those qualities are what people will love about you. The things that make you strange and amazing are the things that will resonate with other strange and amazing people
