Back then, Bush and Giuliani were right when they affirmed that American Muslims are simply fellow Americans—and today’s Trump-radicalized GOP is wrong. It’s as simple as that.
How the Right Came to Embrace Anti-Muslim Bigotry
After the terrorist attacks of September 11th, Republican leaders opposed anti-Muslim sentiment. But the right’s worst instincts won.

Every single damn day men kill their family members, including an incident just last week where a man in MT killed 8 members of his family — 4 of them children.

But you barely heard a peep about it in the national conversation.

Men killing their families is so common there’s a name for it… 1/
The right-wing organizing around the Lindsay Clancy trial is growing and it’s frightening. A lot of people overlook these culture wars revolving around women’s issues, because, well, they’re women’s issues. But the right doesn’t. It’s how they regained such a massive cultural foothold.

Looks like a great visit to @kutztownuniv.bsky.social from the stellar @repdean.bsky.social !
Always a joy to be back on a campus — and I was especially eager to visit Kutztown University!

Our office supported funding for two KU projects: preserving the Pennsylvania Dutch Sharadin Farmstead and expanding the Engineering & Robotics Lab.

Thank you for the tour — and best of luck this year!🐻💛

Over 15,000 veterans have lost their homes since trump destroyed the Veterans Affairs Servicing Purchase program in 2025.

Democratic amendments offered in Committee would have reversed these devastating cuts. Republicans blocked them.

This tracks with what’s happening to these disciplines in higher ed. Anthropology program freezes and closures being monitored by @americananthro.bsky.social
The administration can’t execute this agenda alone - it takes complicity.
Zero new NSF grants in sociology, anthropology, political science and economics. The agenda of this US govt is to stop documenting the society in which we live while they are destroying it. We will find other ways to track and explain our times and fight to restore our research funding.
Finally, this has gone a bit under the radar, so I want to highlight it: The social, behavioral and economic sciences directorate (SBE) has simply ceased to deliver grants to many of its subareas. Any topic not specifically OK'd by the Trump administration is receiving zero new awards.

Miss Candy had outfitted the Blue Angels for 43 years. The Navy was paying her $127,000 per year for the contract.

Without telling her, the Trump regime gave the contract to a white man 900 miles away and paid him almost triple.

Note that women overwhelmingly kill their partners to escape their abuse, while men overwhelmingly kill their partners because a) the partners want to escape them, b) they want to marry someone else without loss of money/property/control of offspring, or c) both the above.
"According to statistics compiled by the ACLU, women who kill their partners will spend an average of 15 years behind bars, while men who kill their female partners serve much shorter sentences, on average between 2 to 6 years."

Pennsylvania's auditor general, a Republican, audited 210,000+ new voter registrations under Gov. Shapiro's new motor voter system to see if noncitizens were registering to vote.

They found one. One.

And that was because a PennDOT staffer erred. It was fixed before the driver left the office.

Excellent piece.
Terrific analysis by Steven Poole in the Guardian, teaching me a new word: dysphemism, which is the opposite of euphemism. It’s a way to make something sound “maximally horrible.” Poole examines the “chest-beating fiesta of blood and guts” in Trump and Hegseth’s language about the war against Iran.
