this is not a problem you can fix with calm, reasoned debate. you can't even fix it by improving people's lives with policy.

there is no clear, proven, non-violent solution to this issue. finding one is the most significant problem of our age.
Like we don’t have political disagreements, we have disagreements on the nature of reality

Thought this was about cumtown at first
Im sorry this is not the gotcha you think it is. I dont really care to "trans" a series that

- has a racist chinese character
- has a racist black character
- treats the female lead trying to stop slavery as "stupid"
- the protag becomes a cop at the end

Are straight people okay
Not (strictly) hiring but: I was exposed to some gender/dating nonsense earlier this week when a local celebrity asked about her followers' dating icks and one of the top comments was "drives with both hands on the wheel"
what's the most insane hiring shibboleth you've ever heard, non-coffee edition

i really can’t bring myself to care about AI anthropomorphism debates. “is AI thinking?” i don’t know. is a calculator calculating? questions for the philosophers. what’s important is that we put sam altman in prison.

It's quite possible this has been the case for nearly all of human history and we've "merely" returned to these conditions
We exist under tyrannical, undemocratic conditions and are acutely aware how impossible it is to hold anyone in power accountable. But we don't really acknowledge how this awareness chafes at us, moves us to despair and grief and rage that sublimates into viciousness and ire at those we can reach.

it is genuinely obscene that prior to this point it was considered good for american democracy that nixon and reagan were never prosecuted
Yes. I think the consensus among US elite pundits and senior politicians that the way to protect liberal democracy is *not* to punish elite figures who violate its rules is wrong. A norm starting at least with the Watergate pardon. The opposite is true. You need to enforce the law and Constitution.
Once again, one of the primary reasons we have arrived at this point (completely out-of-control & unconstitutional abuse of executive power to conduct wildly illegal foreign policy) is that no one, including the most senior people involved, went to jail for the rest of their lives for Iran-Contra.

"what if the democrats become labour on trans rights" is the nightmare scenario for trans people in the united states and avoiding that is why I think we need to continue pushing back on dems who waver as hard as possible
This point, from my recent interview with @perrybaconjr.bsky.social for TNR, is so crucial. Trans people are desperate for relief from the relentless Republican attacks impacting all of us.

When Democrats move right, they signal relief may not be coming, and that engenders a lot of despair.

The Democrats who are responding to anti-trans Republican attacks by kowtowing are signalling that they're not ready to meet this emergency. If elected, they're showing won't have the spine needed to reverse the Trumpist tide - unless we make them more afraid of their base than the other party.
