Anyone getting that we’re all benefiting from all Ukraine is doing?

Ukraine targets infrastructure, aiming to force Putin. Russia targets appartment buildings and schools, aiming to cause mass casualties.

Trump, supports Russia. To him, the lives of Ukranians, and Ukraine itself means nothing.

Is the Smith government guilty of partisan gerrymandering? We don't know, and we won't until they release the second report, and records of the process that created it. Why is the Premier stalling? Trump doesn't want to see him in the Epstein files. Smith?

The Pope has requested a mail in ballot. That’s leadership.

Even if consumers are brainless and install Muse … the banks know better.

It makes me so crazy when the use the old trope of the supposedly trained gunman slamming a magazine into their weapon. It’s one of the first things you learn not to do. It leads to jams. It gets you killed.

You are of course welcome to your opinion. It’s funny, I recall my parents using about the same logic when I asked for my first calculator. I wonder if my father heard the same when he asked for a slide rule.

Though its beyond us for now, physicists say it’s possible that in the future we’ll be able to create new universes. Think about the connotations of that one!

That ship sailed long ago. Now, we need to focus on what's next; leaning in so we have sovereign access, creating accountability, evolving AI's towards ethical behaviour, and teaching ourselves to leverage it well. AI can be a real boon to all, but that takes thoughtful effort!

Ottawa’s $1.6-billion stake in Cohere does not secure reliable Canadian capability or AI sovereignty. That requires Canadian authority over essential systems, confidence in their integrity, and the ability to operate and develop them under foreign pressure, all governed in Canadians’ interests.

The president of the United States worries about holes in the netting of a golf course’s driving range while the U.S. is losing a war and inflation is draining our bank accounts.
Vote against all Republicans.

While I'm deeply uncomfortable with our (hopefully temporary) retreat from climage goals, it seems to me that continued dependence on American AI is a very very bad idea. So maybe the Cohere investment is a good thing ... AND we want more done on climate?

I'm reading a book. I'm really enjoying it. In the closing pages, I suddenly come across prose with those long dashes with no separations between them and the words to either side. Hmm. How do I feel about that. An interesting test ... is my professed acceptance Human/AI collaboration real?

Canada’s national security strategy is a promising start. Why these eight priorities? What’s missing (skills, civic knowledge, talent)? How will business partnerships stay aligned with Canadians’ interests? The test is delivery: when will we see funded plans, deadlines and accountability?

Hegseth continues to dismantle American military power. It really is limiting when all you can have working for you are people more incompetent than you, and you are a Fox propagandist.

“University professors are adapting their courses for students who cannot read long, challenging texts anymore”. And we’re not calling it a crisis?
October 29, 2026 at 12:24 PM
Well I personally think the point is that nobody should be treated like that, and everyone involved in ICE should be on trial, but that’s just me.

Is there such a thing as a Lipton Chicken Noodle Soup cleanse?

What's in a name? Here, we just don't know, and we don't know what discarding it means. How deeply will Canada & the EU integrate? What long term commitments will they make? What remaining objectsion present challenges?

Suppose that we construct a system that reproduces every observable aspect of human intelligence: reasoning, memory, emotion-like behaviour, learning, and the capacity to form relationships. What additional evidence would we require before granting that the system might have an inner experience?

In a world where AI owners deny any responsibility for what their products do, this was inevitable.

Leaders who abandoned principle and broke public trust in pursuit of profit now seek support from Democrats as Trump’s influence appears to wane. They should not expect a change of political patrons to wipe the slate clean.

Trust must be earned. They must own their actions and accept consequences.

I'm glad Chow won. Her caring vision has delivered real gains. But Bradford’s 40% deserves a hearing: reliable travel, lived safety, value for taxes, and a voice for those beyond the core. Her next term should show those who didn’t vote for her that their concerns can shape her decisions.

The best fighter isn’t automatically the best choice for Canada. Beyond the 16 F-35s they'vecommitted to, Carney’s review must weigh missions, dependence on Washington, and room to invest in future capabilities. Technical excellence matters. So does freedom to act.
