I've been thinking about how, after Dolly Parton's death, her incredible career was barely even mentioned - compliments of that sort were forgone in favour of praising her benevolence and charity. How impressive to be such a talent and still have that be secondary to your wonderful character

Never use that ghastly cliché, "his head was blown clean off." If someone's going to have something blown off, make it dirty! No clean head-blowing. You want your head to be blown memorably. So, once more: blow them dirty, dirty sloppy head. Thank you!

Fellow writers, please stop giving us overlong descriptions of the hot men you're introducing in your story. No one wants to have to read about his height, hair colour, hairstyle, hair length, clothing, eye colour etc. and by the time we get to the end of the list we've forgotten most of it anyway

One good rule Twitter used to have was penalising the follow-me-backers; those accounts that mass follow people with particular interests in the hopes that if even 10% follow back out of politeness, they'll have built a substantial following artificially.
