Somehow, by some miracle, I have been able to consistently keep my thesis at just under 100,000 words. About to do 2 rounds of final mechanical reviews, a few minor adjustments. but currently the word count sits at 99,356.

this is a pretty great overview of the Examen. even more touching was how clearly talking about it brought some deep felt emotion to Andrew while describing. beautiful. we need more good stuff like this on the internet!
Andrew Garfield on the Jesuit examen prayer. Listen to our whole conversation here: youtu.be/9yxeax_IdKY?...

I watch this video pretty much daily as my thesis morphs from rough draft, to draft, to final draft, to final final draft. finally, it will come to REAL FINAL DRAFT (USE THIS ONE!!)

I can't wait to start learning German in October. Because the Germans have amazingly cool words.

A quick reprieve to RT this as I saw this and....boy oh boy this is my life right now.

Especially the end. The draft names....you should see my chapter file names!!

Back into the void.

Deleting my social media apps until September 30th. please pray I get everything done that needs to be done in time for submission. Activating monk mode!

Asking especially Maurice Blondel, whose cause is now open, for intercession.

This is now starting to feel real. The Master Document is now being constructed as each chapter goes through its edits.

hard to believe that South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut turned out to be more of a documentary than a comedy.

from this day forward, the bird formerly known as the American Eagle shall be known as Canadian Eagle.

I think I am finally hitting the “oh crap my thesis is due in 5 weeks and the mountain of work is almost insurmountable” moment that gets me productive.

Przywara's account of the fallout from WWI feels apropos to our moment in history:

"this idolized world flew apart in shreds, that this entire humanity, into which God had been narrowed and humanized, revealed itself as a mob of predators, that this entire creation revealed itself as a volcano. 1/2

I feel I need to be like Maurice Blondel and lock myself away in the middle of nowhere with no contact with the outside world so I can get through the last 5.5 weeks of thesis writing

bit weird but in a good way of getting back into the “gotta prep for sunday homilies” rhythm again. ive missed this rhythm a lot the last year (often said Mass on my own). it feels good to retrain this rhythm of homily prep.

I was struck by this passage by St Jean Vianney.

A true gauge of progress is how easily we know what to ask of God in comparison to our earthly needs.

His point is not “earthly needs are bad”. It is “your desire for God increases in asking for God alone”

packing day. mixed emotions.

how many times writing my thesis I have to remind myself: dont describe: argue!

it is rather annoying how often I hit a wall in editing and it takes me an hour to realize the problem is I have no frame to argue through that makes my descriptive writing actually work.

A mention at breakfast this morning: we should not call it AI slop. It is human slop. because a human prompted the slop. to call it AI slop is to scapegoat our own responsibility. I think that is a great point.
