Just saw someone say their AI runs their fantasy football team and I can’t stop laughing. Like, I’m sure everyone’s doing it or something but it’s very funny to me that pretending to be a team manager was so hard that you needed to pretend to pretend to be a team manager

I kind of admire the optimism when I get spam from "Tractor Supply".

Darn, the library lowered the number of monthly Hoopla borrows to 5. Oh well.

Worth reading.
WELL. If you wondered why I had zero things to say about the NYT piece on the HR AI fic situation last month...I had zero things to say publicly then. 🥲 Thank you to everyone who discussed this situation with me and read a draft of this. I tried my best to illustrate these longstanding dynamics:

I had zero interest in seeing Digger until hearing how bad everybody says it is.

Ah remember when jazz was hip enough that Playboy would run polls?

(And yes I know Hefner was a serious jazz fan.)

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:

I like this gag and will have to reuse it on something better. Hope I didn't unconsciously lift it.

They said UPS driver may or may not ask for a signature. I didn't know they had a choice. Our apartments are pretty secure though.

Two weeks ago there was a fraudulent charge on my card so they said they'd cancel and send new one. I called when it didn't arrive. Turns out they didn't cancel, just declined any purchase attempt. Plus side is I'll probably be at home when UPS makes a rush delivery.

My library just got 79 more copies of Dungeon Crawler Carl so I jumped from 40 in line to it's ready. Now we'll see if I like it. Could go either way.

You had me at "unapproachable".
“A poem must resist the intelligence almost successfully,” wrote Wallace Stevens, the inimitable poet born on this day in 1879. His work—mystic, ephemeral, symbol-laden—may at first appear unapproachable, but the rewards for the persistent reader are immense. www.loa.org/writers/295-...

Seems good the Steam sale started just a few days after I got addicted to Witcher 3 - less tempted to buy anything.

There's a meat-and-three place near me that serves on plastic takeout containers. They, uh, take reservations. Hey I guess if you're busy, you're busy.

Omg Humble Bundle ease up. Cherryh, EC Artists, Disney Masters, Image in the 20s, Greg Bear, now Aldiss, Joe Haldeman and Gene Wolfe!

Good news - a Oaxacan place is opening right near me.

Bad news - it's described as "immersive".

Why did Longhorn send me a privacy update? How did they get my email? Are they just showing off?

Anybody Robert McCammon fans? Fanatical has a bundle of 29 novels for $13. They sound interesting but I've never read one and at the moment am piled up with tbr. (Like literally piled up - a friend says I sort books by the stalagmite method.)

We didn't get book fairs when I was a kid but an order sheet where we could get Scholastic books that appeared a few weeks later. Always a highlight. I don't think I still have a single one of them.
Heading to my local cafe and saw this on the way & I dead ass got excited 🤣🤣☺️☺️☺️ ( inner child excitement)

Penguin Book of the Prose Poem was organized backwards chronology so most recent work was first. A bold move since it meant all the worthless stuff was at the start & just hoped readers would plough through to get to the good stuff. And it was amazing that the start had almost nothing worth reading.

I'm sorta excited by the Library of American flash fiction anthology and sorta not. I remember being excited about the Penguin Book of the Prose Poem and the first about 60 pages was just terrible except for a single Anne Carson piece.

Booking hotels may have never been fun but now it's just annoying. Want ability to cancel? Or partly cancel? Include parking? Breakfast? It costs less farther out but can I plan that far ahead? That's why I'd need to cancel. Plus just looking at so many in different locations.
