Throughput optimization is devoid of ethics. So is reward-chasing. A carrot-or-stick model of behavioural control is already overly simplistic, and the model currently being used lacks the stick, so what do they expect will happen?

I want a fridge that asks "You sure about that?" when I open the door at 3am.
I don't want a "Smart Fridge" that orders milk for me. I want a fridge that lasts 25 years and doesn't have a privacy policy that allows it to share my late-night snacking habits with my health insurance provider.

Audiences do not want movies made "the hard way" and that framing is ridiculous. We want movies made by people who care about what they're making. I don't care how they do it. If it's good, and it was relatively easy to accomplish, it's just as valuable.

Look, I don't like the tariff situation any more than the next person, but standing our ground is the smarter move. Going on the aggressive just to spite the current admin isn't good for anyone long-term.

Nobody likes the messy middle ground between general belief and lived experience. Especially when resolving it is hard, or even impossible. But ignoring it is precisely what paves the way for authoritarianism of one kind or another.

The problem I have with crime debates is that they tend to operate on the assumption that all laws are just, and that enforcement is fair. The latter is demonstrably false and the former is a huge can of worms all on its own.

Things should start with what constitutes a "criminal"

A lot of questionable opinions and behaviours can be spun as ethical if you keep your categories broad enough. The devil is always in the details.

I wonder if The Left™ have figured out yet that this obsession with puritanical enforcement of identity politics is a big part of why the Overton window keeps moving to the right? Probably not, but I can hope.

"I'm on rails, FFS! I'll give that old bucket of bolts a piece of my mind!"

And with that, he sped off down the tracks, as fast as his wheels would carry him.
