The time it took the perception of Sony to go from undisputed winners of the console wars to a husk of a company starting its inevitable decline can be measured in one fumbled Kojima project and a Metacritic 78.

Did y'all hear the rumour that some companies are making AI trailers & websites for games that don't exist, and launching them on high profile showcases to see if anyone is interested before commiting to development? Idk if this is like a known thing, but I was taken aback. Next level vapourware.

It's funny that "condemned" is the word that used for a dangerous building, huh. Like a surveyor has to stand outside of it giving a speech to the media about its disgracingful slumping roof and shamefully decrepit load-bearing columns.

Played a few hours of Onimusha. The action is tight, it looks great, and the characters have a fun pulp cinema vibe.

Game stories often have the X-Man movie problem of being entirely unserious while grasping for gravitas that... isn't there. Onimusha knows it's silly. Extra points for that.

Me, to a taxi driver: "What sort of stuff do you listen to?"
He: "Old stuff."
Me: "What, like, the Beatles?"
He: "Nah, you know, like Nirvana."

Later, reading a shoegaze artist's biography:
"I grew up listening to a lot of dream pop when I was a kid, like Beach House..."

Seeing people picking holes in truly minor aspects of the Ocarina remake reminds me that gamers are uniquely incapable of just being happy with something

Saw a great triple-bill of Gwenno, Angine de Poitrine, and Stereolab at the Manchester Psych Fest today. Angine were incredible—a paradoxical feeling of being both improv-scribbly and astonishingly tight.

The director of Ori and No Rest For The Wicked is awful. He compared cancel culture—that is, social & professional consequences for abusers when the law fails—to the holocaust.

His new anti-critic review platform will formalise racist, sexist review bombing as a feature, not a bug.

Fuck this guy.

Btw, Spotify is evil so don't give them money, cancel your sub, use @pocketcasts.com, it's just as good and free. Apple or Tidal for music.

People *must* know that buying things doesn't mean owning them, says Sony.

Surely this model is gonna get burned down by the EU, if nobody else.
Sony says "reasonable consumers" know they don’t own the digital PlayStation games they buy.

It argues that it's "not plausible" to suggest that when they buy a digital game they actually believe they're "obtaining ownership" of it.

YouTube changed what a "view" is. People used to have to watch for a while to count as a view; now, views are counted even if they leave on 0:01. So "views" are up, but mean less—they're more like "clicks". It's nonsense, and must mean they want to monetise against view counts in some new way.

There is kind of no way GTAVI could live up to its hype level. It's like people are expecting a UFO to fly out of their screen and grant them eternal life, rather than running around picking up side quests, getting new outfits, and looking in your inventory now and then like every other game.
