I.T.'s job is to provide a protective shield around an organization. User actions are like little "pores" in this shield, as people often need to escape the shield to do their jobs. And you know what they say: I.T. never reigns I.T. pores.

This thread is insane. It also very much confirms my priors about British Airways.
lol my flight got diverted because of a medical emergency and they landed us in reykjavik in the middle of the night and deplaned us and sent us through passport control and then the crew vanished and then british airways sent us links to book an overnight hotel room but for a hotel at heathrow

Same goes for your words! It's never been easier to get your own website up and running. If you're a bit of a nerd, it can also be hosted for free using Netlify or GitHub Pages!
I must once again emphasize that if you are putting art on the internet, you need your own website in case some fucking management ghoul decides the platform they paid too much money for isn't worth how much they paid for it

I grumble a lot about Liquid Glass, but it's because I'm torn between loving the effect and being annoyed by readability issues. I also massively prefer dark mode, and even the clearest appearance now has a bit of a milky hue in dark mode now. After testing clear modes, I'm back to full tinted.

New nerd achievement unlocked! I was linked to in the Ars Technica macOS 27 review:

Dear @mark-carney.bsky.social, we want to bring the relationship with Canada to the highest level possible.

I would like to work with you on opening the door for Canada to being the first associate member of the EU.

And create a common prosperity and economic security space.

I love the new Device Hub in Xcode 27. So much better than the Simulator! Now you have key display options available in a sidebar, and they update the device in real time. Also, you can actually change Liquid Glass settings now! Huge time saver, and great for screenshots.

Family trips, Scouts Canada, then Skills Canada (I competed, then volunteered, for a total of 10 years) took me to every province. All the travel west of Ontario was on Skills Canada's dime, which really helped. Haven't been to any territories, though.
I wonder how many Canadians have been to more than five provinces. I’d bet it’s less than half. Fewer still if you included even one territory. It’s a fascinating thing to think about when you compare to other countries: we are hundreds — thousands! — of kilometers away from our fellow citizens

If you're in the Apple ecosystem, you should check out Indigo. It's a single app for both Mastodon and Bluesky. Free a slot on your homescreen! (it also works well — and is now cheaper — for only one network) @vegh.ca and @benricem.bsky.social have built something really special here.

New post on my blog about switching password managers in 2026! It covers:
- why your iPhone or iPad, and not your Mac, might be the place to start your switch

Switching Password Managers in 2026
Important Note: Although I work at Apple in the password management and app/website authentication spaces, in this post I am speaking only for myself, personally. There is no “news” in this post or any kind of “inside scoop”. Please do share this post, but if I see “Apple’s Ricky Mondello” anywhere, I’ll be sad. My [...]
