Hey friends 🫂🫂

I never thought I would create my own merch.

But after years of writing about Ukraine,
I wanted to create something you could actually hold in your hands.

So I made my own designs.
Made with Ukraine in my heart💙💛

Take a look:

Hey friends🫂🫂
I’ve been much quieter lately

And honestly, I thought I was handling everything much better than I actually was

The last few days made me realize what this war has really done to me

This is probably my most personal update in a while

A familiar story for anyone who follows @volts.wtf.

“The Chronicle spoke to more than half a dozen grid experts…to try to understand why Texas’s notoriously unreliable grid had a remarkably reliable summer.

The answer was unanimous: solar panels and batteries.”
Texas shattered energy demand records this summer. Here's why the grid held up.
Texas repeatedly broke electricity demand records this summer, but ERCOT avoided emergencies as booming solar and battery capacity helped keep the grid stable.

I haven't posted on social media for a month or 2...I recently lost my dear Mum to cancer...she was 250 miles away from me & i always wanted her to witness a glorious sunrise at a misty Corfe Castle with me but that chance passed long ago due to her ailing body...
Tell them you love them ❤️

Maiko Kokaji, 1939, Japan
Standing in calm, poised repose beside the rough, deeply textured bark of a tree trunk, the young apprentice geisha Maiko Kokaji gazes toward the viewer with a composed, gentle expression. Her kimono is tailored from dark silk densely patterned with a field of small white floral blossoms that drape down her long sleeves and skirts. At her waist, a structured obi with geometric foldings is secured above her white embroidered inner collar (han-eri). Her traditional coiffure is adorned with a prominent white rose on one side and shimmering metal fluttering hairpin ornaments (bira-bira kanzashi) on the other, catching soft ambient light. Rendered in monochrome silver tones, the photograph creates a tactile contrast between the porcelain smoothness of her powdered face, the soft silk of her ensemble, and the raw, weathered bark of the tree beside her. Captured in 1939—a pivotal moment during the early Shōwa era on the eve of global conflict—this photograph documents Maiko Kokaji within the traditional entertainment districts (hanamachi) of pre-war Japan. During the late 1930s, the centuries-old world of geiko and maiko stood at a historic crossroads between traditional arts (geidō) and the emerging modernities of interwar urban culture. Portrait photography of maiko was widely studio-crafted and circulated through postcards and cultural archives, preserving the visual elegance of young apprentices whose training required years of dedication to classical music, dance, and etiquette. The meticulous creation of her garment, hand-styled hair, and hand-crafted hair accessories reflects the living tradition of Japanese monozukuri (artisanal mastery), showcasing how specialized craftsmen preserved heritage techniques within a rapidly changing society.
