Just a bit of Australiana. Very short video (taken by someone else) of what happens when you combine remote roads, big trucks and crocodiles. Cahills is quite a famous river/creek crossing in the Northern Territory of Australia. It's not the only one.

Noticed one of my garden oddities, my pink Finger Lime is flowering and has a few immature fruit. Boy have I struggled with this spikey little bastard. Hoping it will get going this year. The fruit is great in Gin and Tonics

My dinky Finger Lime tree. It has nearly died on me twice over the psdt few years. Hopefully it will take off this year. It's still too small to lean an axe againdt for encouragement. It is a native Australian citrus tree and yes, it's very spiky Finger Lime flowers. Only about 10mm across. Hopefully these will become fruit. Immature Finger Lime fruit. These should turn pink as they ripen. There are 3 at the moment. Not a lot but it's progress.

Just started editing the final video in Series 6. It's scheduled for release on 3rd Oct. Looks like there will be one more (very touristy) trip this year. Hope next years trips go ahead. There is an adventure trip that I am really looking forward to in 2027.
Notable clock tower, double decker buses, black cabs, hmmm, wonder where this could be? Walked our legs off, got rained on and explored the joys of 'The Tube'. Join us for a lightning tour on the 3rd of October. With luck we will be back in 2027, probably twice.

Out on the river again today to get some exercise. Up to the cafe at Kent St Weir for a coffee and a Passionfruit slice. Burned off the caloried on the way back against the wind.
Quite a few Corellas at Kent St. I'm sure they were eyeing off my cake. The barge. No, not sleek but it's stable for use in the ocean. Use more calories per kilometre. I think it's a Darter. Blasted thing kept swivelling around instead of holding the nice pose it was in when I came up to it. Hardly going to leap out and try to catch it. Kayak transport. The trailer normally has two kayaks on it. My car roof rack can hold one but mine is pretty heavy and awkward to load that high. Trailer holds all the accoutrement like seats, paddles, wet booties and much more. With just one kayak on the top still opens and stays open with gas struts. A few times a year we fill the trailer and car with fishing and camping gear and head to somewhere off grid. No electricity, no internet, heaven!

Also re my videos, if they look low resolution you might need to manually set the resolution higher as they are HD quality. They might be awful but they are HD awful.

Sunday and I'm on schedule so a new video today. Where are we? In Madeira, an offshore territory of Portugal. Found out that Madeira does not only have the fortified wine but another drink with a bit of a punch (slight linguistic joke there).

There seems to be some concern that the rowing events in an upcoming Olympic Games in Queensland is to be held in a river that is home to 500 crocodiles. As an Australian, I don't see the problem. It's only 500. The competitors might only see one or two 😀

Took a stroll on the walk trail along the Canning River in the outer suburbs of Perth this morning. Quite steep in bits so good exercise for the old legs. Nice day. East winds have arrived so Spring is here for sure.
Yes, this counts as suburbia. Canning River Valley, Roleystone. Funny mix of people out walking during the week. We retirees and FIFOs at home during their off site swing. A fruit tree. Don't know what. Stonefruit of some kind? Probably a remnant of an orchard. There are still a lot of orchards in this area but not as many as there once were.

Went down to buy some flowers for Purple Bra Day for a family member who defeated breast cancer twice. Family shop where the missus runs a florist one one side and the mister sells motorcycles on the other. They had a fully electric Trials bike there. Yummo, but too old for that stuff now.
Yes, it's Breast Cancer Awareness week and this florist is donating for Purple Bra Day. Is this a thing where you are? Here, any treatment is covered by our Public healthcare but the more funds that are available for research, the better. The other half of the shop is an offroad motorcycle shop. Not only is the new stock interesting, but there are some nice veteran bikes on display as well.

Well that's today's plan out the window! Power is out for the next few hours so no video editing today. Sorry. Let's just post a marginally relevant picture.
Two necessities for remote area travel here and in other areas of the world. They have been to Africa with us. On the left is our Personal Locator Beacon. To be used only if things go very wrong. Transmits your location to dedicated satellites. It allows no messages and is the equivalent to a formal SOS message. Deploy that and it triggers a global network to get help to you. On the right is our Inmarsat Satellite phone. Expensive to use but you don't use it for trivial chat. You can use it to call any emergency number (000, 999, 911) even if you have no credit. The PLB we take in the car even if we are just travelling in the country locally because you are often out mobile phone coverage. It's less important now because our new phones have satellite messaging, but the sat messaging is patchy whereas the PLB is monitored world wide 24/7 so it still goes with us.

Evening walk last night and had to head home to the city this morning. Blue skies, no wind. Perfect for wildflower photography. Shame we couldn't do any. Typical 😡
Two things that it is important to know in this country. Evidently the snakes like to sun themselves on the brick paving outside the dunnies. Try not to disturb them. Is this way out in the bush? Nope. At a service station at the top end of the freeway into the city. And so we bid goodnight to Dynamite Bay at Green Head. Have to head home in the morning. There is a nice shelter here where you can eat your cafe take away lunch. Like many of these towns there is an Osprey nesting tower here. They are artificial towers specifically to encourage Ospreys to nest. They work. This one comes complete with free Osprey. Sorry for the awful pic. Phone is all I had. More info about the Osprey tower. A bit further on there was one explaining that the washed up seaweed on the beach is not a problem, it's an ecosystem. And no, it's not going to be removed so suck it up.

Weather is not conducive to wildflower hunting today. Cold, windy, showers. Took a quick trip in the car up the coast instead. Pix are not very exciting. Sorry 😐
PS. The weather should clear up to give us a nice drive home. Typical!!
The road used to go where the sand dune wants to be, so the road got shifted. Fishing boat jetty a Leeman. The seaweed washes up in the winter storms. Good free mulch. The coast is mainly limestone through here, gence the white sand. Dynamite Bay at Green Head. Great fish and chips at the cafe here but expensive.

Out today in Lesueur National Park wildflower hunting. Typical sandplain country with the flat topped Mt Lesueur as the centrepiece. The vegetation, known as Kwongan Heath is wildflower rich. Now mostly given over to agriculture there are still big areas left.

Just some early Spring flowers from Western Australia. The red one I know but not the others. More tomorrow hopefully.
A Claw Flower. Calothamnus quadrifidus I think. Masses of small white Grevillea flowers up the hillside. More detail of the flowers. A, a, er, don't know. There were masses of this though.

Dropped by Serpentine Falls National Park, about 30 min from the edge of the city. There is often a small mob of roos in the picnic area. They were there with 4 females having advanced joeys. This is why dogs are not allowed in our National Parks. BTW these roos are wild but tolerate people well.

Have I new crop of Sturt Pea seedlings. Might get 6 out of 8 germinating. On the right I'm trying to grow a small tree from seed. The nursery ones are too advanced and at $200 ea are a bit expensive. Any excess I'll give away.

At least with my awful Youtube vids I do make an effort towards some technical quality. New directional microphone to improve nature sounds. There are better ones but they tend to be big and awkward. This is a step up over what I have.
New Sennheiser MKE400 directional microphone for to make the better videos. Hopefully better than my basic Rode. Need some forest sounds and some African drumming to test it with. Mounted on the 'big' camera. Not too much of a sore thumb. Also has a 'dead cat' wind shield that goes over it. Have to learn how to use it before next June.
