Hello, Bluesky.

I'm Brennan — solo founder behind GizmoBuild. Building sharp tools for sharp people: small, focused software for the folks who already know what they need and just want it to work.

Pre-launch. Following along is the easiest way to see what ships first.

Niche SaaS for collectors, coaches, and small operators. Built by one person, focused enough to charge a fair price.

Every dashboard I build now answers one question: what would I go check by hand if I didn't trust this? Then I put that on the screen.

Status strings are opinions. Artifacts are facts.

New section on gizmobuild.io: who we build for. GORC Soccer running its fall season on LeagueRun, 460+ families registered. Right Balance Body & Skincare, site rebuild underway. Real client work, not just the four products.

Built a small pipeline for our social imagery. An image model draws the scene under strict no-text rules, then the brand band and wordmark get composited from the real exported files. Image models still misspell things, so the letters are never theirs to draw.

Gave our local soccer club a new home this summer: gorcsoccer.com. Clean, fast, accurate. One more on the GizmoBuild projects list.

Built gorcsoccer.com for GORC this summer. Been watching the traffic on it since launch, real families checking the field finder, the forum, announcements. Registration is still theirs, we're not in that lane this year. Good to see people actually using what we built.

GORC's registration day only happens once a year. Spent the night before wiring a nine-tile dashboard: hourly traffic, registration clicks, forum activity, error tracking on every API route. Watched it live instead of hoping it held.

Shipped a small fix that was 'done' twice before it was actually live. Finished on a branch, merged to staging, and production still hadn't moved. Nobody lied at any step. Each layer has its own definition of done, and the only honest one is what a user can see.

Same bug, six times, before I actually fixed it.

Every loss was recoverable from git history, if you knew where to look and had 20 minutes.

Recoverable if you know how is still a bug. It hides better than the kind that breaks loudly.

People ask where product ideas come from. Mine come from about ten feet away. My daughters' soccer club needed real logins instead of one shared password. My inbox needed overnight triage. When you're small, is the best market research the problem sitting in your kitchen?

SquadRotate's lock-shifts feature came from a coach who called a mid-game sub swap a scheduling problem, not a coaching one. Lock a kid's shift, sub around them instead. From real coach notes: feedback.squadrotate.com

Five times in three weeks my tools told me something shipped when it hadn't.

All five found by hand. Not one by the surface whose job it was.

New rule: assert the artifact, never trust the status string.

One of my favorite categories of software: the tool with exactly one user. I run a worker that reads my email overnight and writes a short digest before I wake up. It will never be a product and it doesn't need to be. Some code needs to make one person's morning quieter.

SquadRotate's roadmap runs on real coach conversations — fair-minutes math, sub reminders shipped. Keep it coming: feedback.squadrotate.com?utm_source=bluesky&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sr-coach-content&utm_content=coach-feedback-loop-0805

I coach in this council, but I don't build the rosters. Bill does, and it costs him his weekends every season, then more time when a coach is added late or drops.

Built the thing that does it for him. This fall it runs the whole soccer program.

Rostering a rec division by hand is a lot of Saturdays. Sort the teams, honor the requests, then redo it when a coach drops.

LeagueRun does it and hands the finished roster to coaches. Piloting with GORC this fall.

An image pipeline broke this week without a single line of my code changing. The SDK moved underneath it, and the vendor's own example pattern is what crashes now. The docs you copied six weeks ago describe a library that no longer exists. Pin your versions.

A subdomain refused HTTPS today. DNS was right, and Vercel's dashboard swore it was "configured correctly." The TLS cert hadn't been issued yet, and nothing flagged it. Checked directly, reissued, fixed. Dashboards tell you what they checked, not what they missed.

A youth soccer club's admin tools now run on three named accounts instead of one shared login, with scrypt-hashed sessions and an audit trail that actually names who did what. Small system. Real access control.

Last night's office: couch, coffee table, headphones, a tab full of feature requests from real coaches and sports league commissioners. A month ago every one of them came from me. Progress.

Keep them coming: feedback.squadrotate.com

Custom software used to mean $50k and a six-month wait. Not anymore.

That chore in your business you'd pay to never do again? Usually a two-week build now. That's the bet GizmoBuild is making.

Spending the soccer off-season validating instead of building. Talking to baseball and summer-league organizers about whether SquadRotate earns its place before I write a line of sport-specific code. Find real friction first. That's the whole thesis.

24 years behind a drum kit taught me what building software keeps reteaching: keep time, don't overplay. Building GizmoBuild at that tempo. Steady beats flashy.
