Enjoyed this history of Zoomable User Interfaces/Infinite Canvases from Interface Studies.

It suggests success of Figma versus earlier system interfaces is that the user populates the space themselves (vs the system determining the layout. Better for orienting.

Enjoyed the Folk.computer and Interface Studies conversation!

- rationale for focusing on object (vs gesture) tracking was interesting
- liked the comment about the difference between being focused on physical space vs being pulled into virtual space

Wrote about an Eno quote from How Buildings Learn. Thinking about how the gradient of constraints in a space give you an entry point into its story.

Catching up on videos/talks. I loved Patchwork-26 demos! Especially Orion's bidirectional projections, the spacetime video editor, and grjte's spatial computing setup.

Thinking about the asteroids tabletop, which was somewhat inexplicably at my orthodontist's growing up. Two player screen would be fun - though I think most practical would be each user gets their own screen but you can toss things across between them.

Working through creation and deletion on the tabletop. Two-finger tap feels a little more reliable than double-tap, and paint-select feels great.

Re: Omarchy

I am happy to see Linux excitement. I do not support DHH.

If you want a 'malleable OS' of a kind I can recommend NixOS + Niri + Waybar. Claude Code or the like can then do most anything from you Nix config. (Still a setup learning curve I'm sure.)

He used a shipping container to edit _How Buildings Learn_. I want to make a digital version of this.

CSS styles and text are applied per cell based on position. Global styles can be applied at the top.

Niri is the best
Today niri became 3 years old! 🎉

I implemented and merged animations for windows moving between workspaces.

This was the last *major* missing anim. Took so long because it's tricky with Z ordering (moving windows must be on top of everything), clipping, and syncing 3 different animations.

I finished True to Life, the Hockney interview book recommended by @arquipelago.org.

Weschler is always visiting his house to find him absorbed at his work table, full of ideas of things he wants to try out. It made me think "I want a working life like that".
