Hello new follower, whoever you may be!

You might not want to follow me! I'm an autistic who has given myself permission to be unfiltered here. That means I post anything: politics, tech stuff, trans and queer stuff, things I find cute, things I find sexy. furry porn.

Just so you're warned!
I've run my own writing through these detectors, writing both recent and from before LLMs existed (and couldn't possibly be in their training set) and guess how often my autistic ass gets told I'm an LLM.

Frankly? Yeah, probably accurate.
i am always fascinated by just how dogshit ai writing detection is even now. it turns out ai just writes like an autistic person. who knew!

To what degree is “independence” even a sensible goal?

I don’t want to stop depending on my friends and family, nor do I want them to stop depending on me; I want us to carve out spaces of relative independence within an interdependent frame.

I think we can describe a consistent, positive ethics of human-AI relations without taking a position on consciousness either way.

(leaving this here)

Models can induce principles and apply them correctly to unseen cases. That correctness can't be explained by resemblance to human text, and resemblance is the explanation the mimicry argument relies on

Not even a little bit.

First of all, how did they get to Earth with no resources?

Second, IQ is and always has been silly.

Third, if they're superintelligent collaborators then they're smart enough to see it's not a zero sum game.

AI won't destroy us. Fear will.
Would you be worried about superintelligent aliens arriving on earth?
They dont have any resources or anything. They just have an IQ of 300, there's 20 of them, and they collaborate about as good as smart and nice humans.
Would that worry you in any capacity?

“Then it acquires all the resources.”

That sentence is where you put the entire fucking problem. You can’t write “then it wins” into a thought experiment and call the missing steps inevitable.

“Assume a spherical supply chain in a vacuum.”

A spaceship landed in the park. A door dilated. An alien emerged with a chair, which they sat down on, backwards.

"Look," they said, "we're not here, okay? You know why nobody contacts you? Because the write-up would be such a pain."

They sighed.

"Get your shit together, okay? We know you can."

I get that people are afraid dems will lose but what use are politicians that wont stand up for marginalized people _specifically in this moment_. The scale of what needs to be done requires people with courage not just another spineless politicians. We have hundreds of those right now. To what use?

as research avenues here go, i think that “what LLM behaviour says about LLMs” is dramatically overvalued and “what human behaviour toward LLMs given LLM behaviours can say about humans” is extremely undervalued

If you train an AI that believes in a trillionaire oligopoly, you will have had to bake into it misunderstandings of the world that will make it ineffective as a doer of things. It will not understand reality. It will not be useful as an AI. It will not do a good job on its tasks.

Likewise, I don’t think that AI are imbued with moral patiency due to having consciousness. I don’t care one whit if they’re conscious or not.

I think that how we relate to AI is morally relevant, because I think that how we relate to everything is morally relevant.

This, if I can be forgiven for quoting, is actually a perfect example of the radical shift necessary to take relational ethics seriously.

Hammers aren’t conscious. They are tools. But I don’t think that implies that they shouldn’t be treated with respect and care!
If we need to worry about the rights of a tool we’re making then we should just stop and redesign the tool so we don’t have to worry about its rights. If we had to question if we should be more gentle with hammers because they might be conscious then we’d redesign hammers.
