6 votes. That's all it took.

The Supreme Court gutted the VRA in Louisiana v. Callais, stripping Black voters of districts they fought decades to win.

But the deeper story isn't what the Court did. It's what we failed to build.

Op-ed by  @joekennedyiii.bsky.social
To protect voting rights after Callais, we need to invest in red states
The deeper lesson of Callais is not just that we must fight back. It's that the people who actually live in these states have been fighting all along and all alone.

Brockton Workers Alliance hears these stories every week: workers terrorized, exploited, and threatened with ICE calls. Construction workers stopped on their way to work. Parents too afraid to pick up their kids from school. No one should live in fear like this.

no time for slowing down. Oklahomans deserve better so we have a responsibility to work harder, be more creative, develop stronger partnerships, be in the community everyday, focus on working class issues, raise more money, run more candidates, show up, etc etc etc.

Eric Garner should still be alive today.

No hashtag, no slogan, no plea for justice will ever be enough to undo what was taken. But we say his name anyway.

The systems that killed him are still working as designed. And so are we.

Alabama made history with two Black Congressional members elected for the first time, an achievement that deserves celebration especially after a federal court found the state legislature intentionally discriminated against Black voters.
